If the last 2 games is an indicator of what we can expect from Capela against competition like Gobert and Drummond I'll take it all day over 2015-2016 Dwight's head case drama folding against the same level of competition last year
then Morey will let him sign elsewhere. "You want to be the guy who FINDS Capela, not signs him to a $24m/yr contract." -Murray
Much better Asik... Capela 1) runs the floor 10x better and 2) has 10x better hands. Those are HUGE upgrades.
Asik is still a better overall rim protector due to his size and his ability to secure rebounds. Offensively though, it's not close, and the gap will get wider as Capela develops (Capela only 22 to Asik's 26 when he joined Houston)
Judging by the Game Score, Capela 13.2 vs Embiid 7.3 Capela 16.5 vs Adams 4.5 Capela 16.5 vs Gobert 16.8 Capela 14.4 vs Drummond 8.9 Clint outplayed 3 out of 4 match-ups against the league's elite centers in recent games, wow.
He ain't no 2nd star until he gets @basketballholic stamp of approval to be that 2nd star. Me thinks Maury will package Capela for Rubio, who will be the real 2nd star
I don't think Capela is a "star" by any stretch of the imagination, but he's having a much better season than I think most people expected. In his last five games, he's averaging 14.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.8 assists with only 1 turnover per game and shooting 60 percent from the floor and 54 percent from the free throw line. And that's in only 29 minutes a night. I'm not sure that's sustainable, but over the course of an entire season, those numbers probably make him one of the 10 best centers in the league.
He's playing with Harden and a 3 point shooting team. BUT he is playing well and showing he can be a starter in the league so that's good.
Capela has shown improvement but part of that might be the Amare effect. Basically his numbers look good but mostly because the system MDA runs. When he develops a legit post game i'll be convinced
Why would his play not be sustainable? If anything, he should continue to improve. He's only 22, and is still growing into his body. Next year will likely be his first at peak physical condition.
First, he has shown some really good post moves in the last few games. Second, he is never going to pound the rock into the ground like Dwight did (thankfully). He will be a star in the same sense Deandre Jordan is one. He will dominate in his defined role...not by taking anyone one on one.
I agree to some extent, but I think he needs a little more credit. He's starting to make some nice hook shots around the basket with some regularity. I don't think the Rockets ever expect or even hope for him to to a back to the basket and pound the ball into the big guy kind of post player. He just has to be good enough to kill smaller guys with a hook shot, be able to pass out of a post up to prevent double teams, and at least respectable against other good defensive centers.
Capela deserves so much credit for putting the work in. Just think, it was believed that the Rockets wanted to stash him after the draft because he just wasn't ready to play his rookie year, very raw. It almost seemed as though Capela forced his way onto the roster after the draft. The hard work, willingness to play within the system and play to his strengths are definitely paying off. Capela still has the ability to get better and better.
Young players tend to be somewhat inconsistent. I think it's reasonable for us to expect him to go one some hot or cold streaks throughout the year.
