You know what that would imply? If the Amare trade went down, we WOULD lose our calling card, which is hustle and hard nosed defense. We all know Amare and Kmart don't play much D. Game against pacers we scored 115 with 28 assists but still lose. Why? NO DEFENSE. I think the Rox have started to lose our identity for the past couple years.

hence... the trade for Amare would have put us into the Playoffs this year along with the trade that did go down.
Imma Miss Ya Landry! I was just watching the My Heart will go on Carl Landry youtube video, and that was the first time I cried with something basketball related!
sign and trade was always a plan B. there's a reason why it wasnt plan A and that's because you have less control. With tmac's contract you have leverage and control of your players, in free agency you have to sell yourself to the player other, they pretty much have all the power/control. They decide if they sign or not. Right now it's simply an option they can explore this summer if they feel like they can bring a third star, but i doubt it's a priority.
Morey discussed this. That is what he is currently aiming at on improving our team. It has also been discussed throughout the board. We are stock piling assets.
Definitely a knee jerk thread. T-Mac is not needed here ever again. People who live in the real world realize we miss Landry a lot, and he isn't replaced by playing Battier at the 4 and playing Andersen any minutes. RA's gotta play some of the new bigs, and put Hayes back out there too; depending on Battier at the 4 and Andersen at the 5 is not ever going to be a good idea.
That's one of my reasons for pulling the Amare trade. We would have gotten another allstar along with Kmart. Stoudemire is highly underrated/discounted on this board.
Bingo. I think this unit would be good against the bigger frontcourts. Hayes/Hill/Budinger/Martin/Brooks. Hayes is the defensive anchor and Hill is the enforcer and both can get up and down the court in a hurry.
Morey never said it was THE plan, he said it was an option. It provides flexibility and a better option than just trying to sign someone or trade away players to create space, but it's not that easy. He did the right thing in going for a sure deal at the deadline instead of waiting for FA. Just look at what happened with Ariza and Gortat. The team who's trying to "steal" away the player has very little control with multiple suitors. The team who can match and the player have the control.
i'm sure we all would have liked that trade, but like it was reported, it wouldve been dumb to accept it without a physical, regardless of how good a deal may seem, you always want a physical done on a player who's been injured a lot.
Not at all, we just see his limitations on the defensive end. You don't get anything close to a Kevin Martin with a s&t without giving up talent. Eventualy you have to give up some assets.
Eventually they will. Either Adelman realizes it is dumb to have a frontcourt of Scola and Battier for any stretch of minutes... or The team loses most of these games coming up and Adelman will be told from the Morey that Hill should play at least to showcase his skill and see what we have for next year.
I'm not saying this whole trade shouldn't have gone down. I know tmac had to be traded for assets. KevMart is a good pick up. I'm saying Amare would have made a significant leap in Contending next year in part because Landry was traded away. Even if Amare opted out we would have enough space to sign a significant piece. Imagine our current lineup with Stat. KevMart included. Now add Yao.
The sad truth, and what everyone has known but sometimes refuse to accept, is that this year's Rockets are simply a Cinderella team. It did great in the beginning, played with intensity, heart, and determination. But, like most cinderella type teams, they fizzle and the run eventually ends due to a lack of talent. The Rockets, for this year, have hit this point. I don't think anyone should be expecting a playoff run especially considering that Yao is out and Kevin Martin just got here. I personally didn't like the Kevin Martin trade, although I understand why Morey did it. This team desperately needs someone that can create their own shot and create for others. Martin falls into the former portion of this category. I trust that Morey will do what he can to land a player of this caliber in the near future, but as is, even with Yao, this team is nowhere near contender status.
his stats alone atm should show enough to merit a pass. doesn't he have to pass a physical to even play? If he opted in his contract ends when Yao's ends. If he got injured he would be a significant chunk of money when the Rockets decide what to do with Yao and what direction the Rockets need to move in.
With Yao this team pretty much owned the Lakers. Lakers front Yao and now everyone else is forced to either throw up some horrible three or drive and they can't drive. If Martin eliminates the fronting problem this team...RIGHT NOW with Yao is a contender. Yao was basically unstoppable last year, you'd never know it though because ESPN didn't hype it up like Lebron or Wade. Yet Yao would get the ball in the post and score damm near everytime.
