I flew to Seattle once and the luggage guys accidentally put the ENTIRE PLANE's luggage on the wrong plane. It ended up going to San Jose or something. They gave everyone a $250 credit and we got our luggage later that day.
When I was in the Marines, United lost over $800 of my uniforms, including my evening dress uniform, which costs a mint. I was not amused. These are the prices from a company that makes Marine unis. EVENING DRESS JACKET $ 275.00 TROUSERS (up to 40 inch waist), Evening Dress $ 85.00 EVENING DRESS JACKET, Made-to-Measure $ 375.00 TROUSERS (42 inch waist and above), Evening Dress, Made-to-Measure $ 125.00 Ouch! Fortunately, they finally compensated me for the loss, but getting tailored for new ones was not fun.
In 1987, I flew Southwest from Los Angeles to Houston for a wedding, then on to Albuquerque for vacation in Santa Fe, then back to Los Angeles. Since I was gone for 10 days, I packed two suitcases with most of my clothing in them, plus it was wintertime so I had all of my warm weather stuff packed. Southwest Airlines lost both bags during the Houston-Albuquerque flight. Never found them. I wound up suing them in small claims court when I got back to LA and they settled by cutting me a check for $1500.
