If you were making this **** up and people had to do it, wouldn't you make women subserviant. I'd make em go nekkid though not all covered up. I think the prophet didn't really like shaving either. The pig thing though I think came about because of trichinossis
Muslim men are supposed to shave their arm pits and pubic hair, so shaving is not something unfamiliar.
tigermission1, I want to thank you for your blunt honesty in stating this. You've earned my respect. I agree with every word in that paragraph just the way you wrote it. BTW, I am a Christian who follows world events fairly closely. My interest and comments on Islam in this discussion are purely political, not theological, though I'm aware of some of the differences between Sunni and Shia.
In islam there is no such thing as a infidel, the term is used as propaganda by terror organizations to refer to jews and christians. As i mentioned before thet are mentioned in the quran as the people of the book, and have close ties to islam its self.
As I understand it, there would seem to be a conflict between the idea that Muhammed is the last and final word from God, and the fact that people pay attention to the Hadeth. What are the rules that make the Hadeth different from other post Muhammed works from a religious perspective? It seems to be that people accept the Hadeth but violently reject on general principal anything else that attempts to do the same thing that the Hadeth does. Not phrased very well but hopefuly the idea is clear.
eh...the above response is from me. using my brother's comp. By the way, do all Muslims think that Ismailis aren't even really Muslims?
What tenets of Islam justify or are misinterpreted to justify the killing of innocent civilians in armed struggle?
There are no justifications in Islam about killing innocents or "infidels" for that matter, The best thing that i can explain that may be misinterpreted is Jihad within yourselfs to get rid of the evil inside, which terrorists misinterprete to make jihad mean a holy war againts all other non muslims.
If so, why do Islamic clerics, who officially interpret Islam, call for holy war against non-Muslims?
I think we need to put all these crazy Islamic clerics & crazy Christian extremists & put them all in a big cage for a Death match ala wrestling! & make pay for view!
why do we have these threads popping up almost every other month. "questions about islam, ASK ME" first of all, i doubt anyone on here has any more knowledge of islam, including the muslims, than what wikipedia does. The answers that any non muslim gets are going to vary, especially because of the different sects. Yes if someone has a doubt about islam, try and help. but dont open a thread just waiting to be drilled by 20 different people with genuine questions of which not all you can answer.
I don't see contradiction. You mean from a literalist interpretation of Genesis??? I don't have that interpretation. Christ came and spoke in parables, telling stories to make the message understandable and relateable to the people of his day. He spoke to agrarian communities and he used tons of agrarian metaphors to make his point. As for the alien question...here's the problem. You and I approach this so differently. This isn't an intellectual assent issue for me. This is an experential thing for me. I know God through prayer and meditation....I know him through the experience of my life. Maybe I'm nuts. Maybe I'm insane. But this isn't words on a page for me. It's why, as I've gotten older, I've backed away more and more from theological argument...because it's pointless. Nearly irrelevant, frankly. Read Velvet Elvis. You'll enjoy the read, even if you disagree entirely. And I think as a non-believer, you'll take heart that a voice like his is this prominent amongst those who call themselves Christians. I would suspect you'd find it refreshing amidst the Pat Robertsons of the world.
Pat Robertson put China's one-child policy in perspective (which many fundamentalists in this country furiously call it an all-out defense or endorsement of the policy). Recently Robertson even declared he himself a "convert" on global warming. Those to me are a sign of pragmatism, which is far superior to dogmatism on any day.
