I only look extremist right wing because you are so far to the left. I am blasted as a liberal on gun forums which is why I talk politics here now.

I did say "not necessarily extremist" if that's any consolation.

I am a gun owner and support enforcement of strict gun laws but do not advocate total bans.

dude, i am asking you for your position. if you don't want people to make assumptions about it, why don't you state it?????????

What are you hiding from here?

What liberty have I supported being taken away? What thought police? What on earth are you talkign about? Let's have a reasoned discussion - tell us what your position is.

I am against wire-tapping without a warrant. How am I supporting the taking away of civil liberties?

    Good. good. very good.

    I
Civilians can't get "armor piercing exploding bullets",...and yes sir handgun muskets WERE available, and were concealable. Yes sir.

I don't think they envisioned many things in the future. So what.

I do too!!!! What the hell. Who own 50 anti-tank weapons anyway.

Well, civilians can certainly obtain quite a bit of fire power that is far more then needed for simple self-defense or hunting - would you not agree?

And I bet you there are people out there with anti-tank weapons sitting in their basement. I bet there are a few with whole weapon stores. There are people like that. Very strange individuals.

I don't have a problem with a mentally stable person having a gun. I am not completely comfortable with it, and I have mixed feeling over the current interpretation of the 2nd amendment, but I do think people should be able to use guns for the purposes of self-defense, hunting, and as part of local militias if such a need ever existed.

I mean, If i worked at one of those late-night convenience stores, I'd definitely want a gun under the counter. And if someone pulled a gun on me, i'd still give them the money, but if i had any sense they had it in for me, i'd come out shooting.

Still, If i went around and talked about bringing down the gov't, talked about getting rid of abortion doctors, belonged to groups that advocated extremism or violance, and I owned guns and other paramilitary hardware - I think the gov't should take a look at what I am doing.

Civil liberties doesn't mean you ignore someone until they actually commit a horrific crime. It means you pay attention. Don't violate their constitutional rights, but if someone raises their hands by doing something suspicious, it's the gov't responsibility to check them out.

    you mean self-defense?

...is the act of defending oneself, one's property or the well-being of another from physical harm

Civilians can definitely obtain far more firepower than a citizen would ever need to protect themselves, don't you agree?

You have got to be kidding. I could go out and (assuming I had the money) stockpile many pallets of guns, which would logically be more than I would ever need to protect myself. How is my statement remotely inaccurate?

How many guns can you shoot at one time? My guess is one gun correct? (actually probably you cannot shoot but let's assume you can)

Then why do you equate many guns to better ability to protect yourself?

Extremist groups have always been monitored and will continue to be monitored.

Depending upon their visibility and activity, some are monitored more than others, and not always within the established legal framework.

There are apocraphal stories that the Weathermen had more undercover FBI attending meetings than actual members.
