First of all, Duncan is not quiet on the court. He's just as whiny if not more whiny than Kobe. In fact, all of the superstars are whiny. Kobe's whiny, LBJ's whiny, CP3 is whiny.

Secondly Ericka Dampier deserves every bit of throwing under the bus Dirk did. Dampier proclaimed himself the 2nd best center in the league, yet when it came time to walk the walk he wilted faster than a petunia under the hot sun. Secondly, the Mavs tied up a huge part of their capspace for him. In fact, they used every penny they saved by letting Nash go on Dampier. How would you feel if the Mavs took away the one guy who made the game easier for you and replaced him with Dampier? To top it off Dampier talked a lot of smack but couldn't do anything on the court.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on Duncan. And I never said that Kobe, LBJ, and CP3 weren't whiny, nor do I like it when they are. I just think this fluff-piece article is wrong when it says Dirk is quieter than most. Guys like Ray Allen and Joe Johnson are quiet, Dirk b****es the whole damn game.

Again, Yao's had worse teammates who were similarly overpaid. I didn't hear him calling out Cato, MoT, or Juwan Howard to the media.

Why are you making excuses for Dirk? If Yao were kicking bicycles, whining about his teammates, and flopping around the court all the time I would be embarrassed. I don't cheer when Scola flops. And I like Tmac, but I always cringed whenever he opened his mouth the past five years. This article is selling an image and you're eating it up with a spoon.

Easy to forget that he came in the league at 18.

A lot of miles on those knees...

    Yes, still and forever.

    - He complains way too much and flops on top of that.
    - He is too soft on defense. If he tried to play as hard on defense as he does on offense, I may have a shred of respect for him.
    - He is the team leader (whether he is officially or not) and I've never seen him rally his team.
    - Skills of an MVP but heart of a scrub. Totally was exposed as a fraud when Mavs were killed in first round against Warriors.

I'm sorry but whats there to disagree w/ re. the statement on Duncan???
It's as proven as the fact that KG is a big trash talker. Duncan is up there with almost every other star player as a big whiner on the court and to be honest, Dirk and Duncan are pretty similar guys. On the court they whine for calls just like almost every other star player, off the court they are two of the NICEST guys you could ever hope to meet. Duncan is a bit more reserved than Dirk but as they get familiar with you they are really easy going people.

I think Dirk is one of those guys that a lot of fans will only start showing him respect and realizing how great he was after he retires.

Wow, way to stereotype an entire sport/group of athletes. I'm sure you'd take no offense if for example a non-baseball fan says "I can't stand baseball players, they're all on steroids".
I'm sure Vinnie Jones, Stuart Pearce, Dave Mackay, Claudio Gentile, Roy Keane and even Oguchi Onyewu of the US thought/think any touch deserved/deserves a foul and cried to the ref is so much as breathed upon.

He does have a lot of miles, but he is durable. He doesn't rely on athleticism.

Duncan is an all time great. There used to be a time when he didn't complain to the refs. He has being doing that as he has gotten older.

I'm not making excuses for Dirk, I'm saying he's justified for throwing Dampier under the bus. Its the nature of the sport, the reason that you're making millions of dollars is the assumption you're an elite basketball player. If you're making millions and you suck, then I won't fault other people for calling you out on it. Its not even like Dirk went out of his way and said outright that Dampier sux and is a waste of money and should be shipped out Kobe style, he just said that Dampier should do a better job, which is true 100%.

The fact that Yao Ming didn't call Juwon Howard has nothing to do with it, its a totally separate matter from what Dirk did. Same thing with Tmac donating to the Haiti people. Just because he donated does that mean you're an a-hole for not donating?

As for this comment I may have misread it but my assumption was Dirk was QUIET OFF THE COURT. That was the vibe I got from the article, that unlike a lot of other guys Dirk didn't live life on the fast lane and just wanted to play basketball then go home. That's why I took offense for people insulting Dirk the person, he's an upstanding basketball player, and role model in terms of not being pretentious or causing trouble. The NBA would be a better product if every player acted like he does, so people calling crap out on him have no idea what they're saying.

I don't think you can make a case of Dirk being quiet on the court, as you have stated he whines like a baby.
