Really? What has Dirk the person ever done to you? Dirk is probably one of the nicest guys in the NBA, right up there with Nash, Battier, Scola and Agent Gil. He keeps out of trouble, out of the limelight and it looks like he doesn't have a diva complex. Sure he's no Kobe or Shaq or Duncan or KG, but he's pretty close, and has a really nice outside/mid-range game. Had he had the benefit of playing with a real big man (and NOT Dampier), I'm pretty sure he'd probably have a ring by now.
He's a great player...it's too bad someone of his size and ability is afraid to play in the paint. He strays away from contact and camps out around the 3pt line...granted he does have a nice touch, but when you're that far away from the basket you will go cold eventually...that's why the Mavs will never win it all. Their star player has to depend on that low percentage shot (with a low chance of drawing a foul) when the game is on the line. That's why he's labeled a *ussy. That being said, if he added a low post game he'd probably be one of the greatest to ever play IMO.
Dirk is one of the best clutch performers in the game! Moreover he goes to the line more than 7 times a game. By far the highest among the top 10 FT shooters! That said he ranks 11th at FT per game. How come that people keep saying that he is soft, doesnt go to the paint, not drawing fouls and so on????? Pathetic.... Looking at his stats over the past decade he definately ist one of the top 3 (!!!) consitant players in the league. He is almost never injured, got less than 2TOs per game, can shoot, can post up....complete package in my opinion. Better than every Rockets player ever, except Hakeem....
The fact that he's playing on the perimeter is probably one of the reasons why he's had so little injury over his career despite logging monster minutes while his contemporaries are already breaking down (Duncan, KG). In hindisight I think everyone will like a perimeter oriented guy like Dirk who lasts a long time over someone like say, Yao who's willing to bang inside but will break down after 5 years or so.
I'll never respect Dirk as a player. Not even that he's soft. I don't care if a player's soft. I don't care if someone hates contact and prefers the finesse style. I don't even mind the flopping in of itself, since everyone does that these days. But I can't stand Dirk the same reason I can't stand soccer players. He thinks any touch deserves a foul, and cry to the ref if so much as breathed upon. He makes it look like he's about to die every time someone touches him. My god, you're a 7 foot superstar. Have some ****ing pride. Landry's teeth vs Dirk's elbow is the perfect example of why Dirk sucks.
I wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion that "Dirk sucks"! His career stats prove that statement wrong. Just because a player doesn't have an Earl Campbell mentality doesn't mean he isn't a good player. It just means he has a better chance of lasting more than 5 years in the league. As far as his flopping & complaining goes; just remember that he has played along side Steve Nash & his team owner is Mark Cuban, 2 of the biggest floppers & complainers around. He is a team player, a great chemistry guy, runs the court well & has a great work ethic. I dare say this. "Put Dirk on the present Rockets team & we are a dynasty"!!!! IMHO
You hate Dirk because someone’s teeth broke off in his elbow? Wow. When talking about the Mavs, national media types always claim Josh Howard is the Mavs toughest player. Bullcrap. Dirk is 10x’s the man Josh Howard is. Josh Howard misses 2 months every time he turns his freakin’ ankle. Congrats to Dirk on getting to 20,000 points last night. Hall of fame.
A guy who led his team to the NBA finals, and has consistently led his team further in the playoffs than Tmac. Not to mention is a 20 and 10 guy, an elite level player in the NBA for a longer period of time. He may be a wuss, but he is one helluva great NBA player. DD
I actually think Dirk is one of the most fun players to watch on the offense. He looks so gangly and uncoordinated the way he moves, as if he's going to trip and fall any moment. Yet when he pulls up for a jumper it's incredibly smooth and he's a great shooter. Just a weird combination to watch.
He isn't the player that Moses or Clyde were in their primes either. I don't like the dude but have no problems admitting he is a first ballot HOF'er. He's not soft he's just not particularly tough and not top 5 of the decade but top 10 maybe. Not sure if his whining is from him or the general culture of whining around that franchise. Also can accept he might be a "nice guy" but since he never invites me over for beers all I can access him from is his behavior on the court which is a little cowardly. Whines, yells at teammates for the same mistakes he himself is making. That all said I'd trade any player on the current Rockets team for him ... but it would surely make baby Jesus cry.
Admire the talent, hate the player. I don't care how much the article tries to paint him as some quiet, efficient worker; the reality is that he's a constant complainer on the court. Portraying him in that way is an insult to guys that actually stay quiet like Duncan and Yao. He whines for calls more than Kobe and, like Ginobli, embellishes the slightest of contact to draw fouls. I hate players that play the refs as much as the game. He's the perfect Mavs superstar, as childish as his team's owner. I can imagine Cuban throwing tantrums and kicking his own excercise bike after that loss in the finals. Dirk's apparently just as unaccountable. If it's not the refs, it's his teammates. I like the way he threw Dampier under the bus because he couldn't guard Amare in the playoffs, as if Dirk ever could. Yao's had much worse teammates and frontcourt partners and I've never heard him complain so directly about them. Dirk's game is beautiful, but I will never respect the way he plays the game.
This I hate the Mavs but I have always respected Dirk's game. As much as I hate it when he makes every shot he takes against us...you have to respect how good he is. Good article Now, don't get me started on the antichrist..."JET" Terry. Just seeing his face makes me want to punch somebody
He has an admirable work ethic. The reason his shot stays so smooth is because of the amount of time he still puts into it. I don't like his on court personality either but different players use different methods to motivate themselves, such as the Black Mamba. Definitely a great player so b****ing about "hating" him makes you come off as a small person.
Your statement may be true; but from it alone, I can't tell which side of the fence you're on with this topic. Or is the fence stuck...
