Najera is a very tough player. I do not know if he is any tougher than Battier, but I would love to have him on our team.
holy crap i did not know this. It also sounds like battier has an ego too. Man i hope we keep him forever.
Battier doesn't flop. When he falls, he is actually falling. He's not Iverson. However, he does get some charge calls that should actually be blocking fouls. But I'm not complaining!
Agreed - so true. The only difference between the Stocktons & Malones, and Battier is that Stockton & Malone are not nearly as polished and positive. I would find to hard to hate on Battier just because of the person he is. For example, I hate the Spurs while they are on the court, but off the court TD, Parker, Horry and crew seem like pretty stand / classy up guys. It moderates a small amount of the disdain. And then there are the Mavericks. Just pure, unadulterated hate there. From Cuban to Dirk to "the second best center not named Shaq."
i don't understand why they don't give battier the post up that much. He's pretty darn good with those. Last night he had Hamilton on him and he only posted up once. Honestly, i'd take him in the post than tmac launching a 3pter with prince on him.
Most people hate Najera because he complains about almost every foul he commits. If he would just shutup and play, then you won't see so much of the hatred towards him. Have you seen him literally stick his hand up yao's a$$ and then in complete shock complain "ref, what foul!?!".
There's another point. Not falling usually results in a no-call. If you're in position, and a player bangs into you and just bounces off, the ref usually swallows his whistle.
Technically he was....we drafted him then traded his rights for the draft rights of Dan Langhi...that worked out real well. Not a big fan of him...hustle guy who gets too much credit for his hustle, he's sorta the mexican version of Kurt Rambis.
That's right-we traded the rights to Najera and Pryzbilla for the rights to Jason Collier and Dan Langhi.....
thank you for posting this. Obviously I did not have the facts straight. It was so long ago.....Battier is really tough!!!
Exactly...it is amazing that he has managed to stay so healthy for his career(knock on wood) considering the way he plays with reckless abandon on defense with complete disregard to his body. What kind of pyscho is this guy? Remember over the summer when he played for Team USA and took a charge from a Yao Ming going full speed on a fastbreak. Who the hell does that? I thought this guy was supposed to be smart and have an extremely high basketball IQ. The guy must be mental. He is a pain in the ass for the opposing team and I have grown to appreciate him much more as a player now that I actually get to watch him on a nightly basis. Boxscores only tell half of his story. As far as hating a guy and then liking him, I'm pretty consistent on that. Once you're on "the list" you pretty much stay there. Take Scottie Pippen and Karl Malone as examples...I still hate those guys and they have long been retired. In fact, I think I hate them even more now that my hate has been allowed to fester, lol. The closest thing I can think of is I used to dislike Kobe. Come to think of it, I still do but I respect his ability to play the game of basketball. He is a phenomenal player to watch.
Has Battier dunked yet? I wanna see him dunk!!! Hopefully over Kobe, after limiting him to 15 points in a game
what i love about Battier is that he sweet talks the Refs thats alot of extra brownie points that will hopefully work in our favour come playoff time
