Don't make such a big deal about it and it won't be so hard. Whenever someones makes a big deal out of dancing and is awkward about it then everyone is going to stare at you and laugh. It's the same as everything else in life; if you show confidence people will not question you. You can dance like a total idiot but if you are confident and have fun with it no one is going to care.
Kinda what I was thinking. Why does this come up? Unless you're married, and then you have no choice but to dance occassionally.
"This is a warning to those of you white people who actually like to dance." <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kGciV57yE1k&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kGciV57yE1k&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Try to steer your group to an 80's night for once. Everyone must dance to 80's music, and it's mostly campy, so everyone dances stupidly, sings along to Michael Jackson and Bon Jovi songs, and no one will notice if you're 'good' or not. You'll get more comfortable going to a normal club afterwards.
This will help... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BZmC_5i7Awc&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BZmC_5i7Awc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> But seriously, just go have fun. The only people who look dumb dancing are the ones who think they are really good at it. Find some good music and just do whatever you want. Professorjay has a good point in that 80s music is the easiest/most fun to dance to.
Consider a 4 year old taking a bath... they hate it and don't want to get in, but once they do, they love playing around in the water and never want to get out. That's my dynamic with dancing. I hate it. I hate the first dance. I feel self-conscious and awkward. By the second dance, I'm thinking, "Hey, this is not SOOO bad." Third dance, I'm John Travolta baby! Just go do it. I promise there are guys who look more idiotic than you.
Well I am not a clubber, these dancing opportunities have come at parties lately, and weddings in the past so it's not like I am going clubbing and putting myself in those situations. You're right but doesn't dancing come outta pure joy and natural happiness? I just don't have that in me, it's unatural to me. The one time I danced confidently was after scoring a goal in HS I did the "dirty bird" , it just came out naturally, but dancing at parties just doesn't, it's forced and makes me hate which leads to a lack of confidence. How I someone be confident at something they dislike? Thanks for all the suggestions though...we'll see what happens.
Perfect opportunity to show ELAINE's "Dancing" - I can't believe no one has posted this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z0oUl_Jvk_0&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z0oUl_Jvk_0&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> ROTFLMAO! Rivaldo, you're not THIS bad, are you...? If no, then there's still hope for you... From now on, if someone invites you out to the dance floor, just imagine you just "scored a goal like in high school" and let'er rip, brother.
^^^^^^^^ I was hoping against hope that I would be here in time to post Elaine... Damn you Swoly-D ....
Sometime you just have to say to yourself "Tonight I gotta cut loose, footloose. Kick off your Sunday shoes. Please, Louise. Pull me offa my knees. Jack, get back. C'mon before we crack. Lose your blues. Everybody cut footloose."
