That is why he fell to 33, sometimes ego gets in the way, sometimes it drives a player to the highest of highs. Gonna have to see, wish the Rox got him though... DD
Well it depends though. IMHO the most critical years to a player's success are his first few years in the league. If that "chip on his shoulder" motivates him to work hard then he'll be a much better player. I think both him and cousins have a good chance of succeeding though. Sac seems to be a tightly knit community with a good fanbase. That kind of environment might be good for guys with offcourt red flags, rather than big cities like NY or LA where they can literally do anything they want. A trio of cousins, whiteside and Evans could be extremely deadly if they all pan out.
Whiteside looked good in his last summer league game against the Pistons. Good rebounding, good shotblocking, not much on offense, questionable attitude. Pretty much what I thought he would be going into the draft. Still someone I would like to see on the Rockets.
He just seems to lack a mental connection with his teammates; in other words, he has low BB IQ. He's great at the things that involve only him, like rebounding and shotblocking, but in other aspects of the game he just didn't seem to compete very hard to me. He also spent most of the game trying to tuck his jersey in his shorts it seemed.
If he keeps swatting shots at this rate, I will be very dissappointed in the Rockets brass. We could really, really use what Whiteside has, even If he is raw at this point...
This is the ultimate sign of a discplined player! he has to know when and what to keep it in his pants.
Regardless of how he turns out, he was worth a second round pick, and I wish Morey would have found a way to draft him. Oh well.
lol at the pple doubting his shot blocking cause he played against "lesser" opponents in college. it's not like he was up against middle schoolers. he still went up against guys WITH nba size and now he's swatting peoples **** all over the summer league. a lot of teams are going regret passing on him. we should've bought a pick to get him. no way a player like Orton should've been drafted ahead of this guy.
I wish they would have bought that last pick dallas bought and drafted him. He's a project, by his upside is huge. In 4 yrs he could be a really good ball player.
I think that's what DM had in mind. Too bad his rep got the better of him and nobody wanted to sell him picks anymore for $$$. I liked him a lot too. PP and Whiteside would have been a great draft.
Or maybe he just didn't want the extra salary. All dallas did was give up money and they got the pick.
That was Dallas. They were playing hardball with Morey because GM's knew he had tons of assets and wanted they wanted a piece of them.
ive been watching the kings, whiteside looks good. he's exactly what they need. he is kinda raw, but not as raw as i thought he would be. rebounds pretty well, has good timing on his blocks. hes PERFECT besides cousins, who has been phenomenal. landry back to the bench :/
sounds like they will have a pretty decent frontcourt. hoping some of these teams like the kings will have decent season and better record then the knicks.
Huh? DM specifically stated in his post-draft interview that if money was all it took they would have bought a 2nd round pick. I think considering they've bought 2nd picks for cash the past few years means that they would have done that again if it was possible. Ultimately I think that Bosh chase greatly affected this season. Hill+cash for another lottery pick might have been possible, or even 14+Hill for cousins.
