I've seen him play at UT a bunch of times and his attitude reminds me of Landry, never give up kind of guy.
I wouldn't want to draft him but I really think he'll succeed in the league and overcome expectations (possibly a starter).

Same, with the 14th pick we can't realistically expect much more.

You take a guy with Whitesides raw athletic abilty, size, durabilty, and surround him with the likes of The Dream, Carrol Dawson, Yao Ming, Dekembe Mutumbo, and Jack Sikma.... do you not think that willl have a positive affect on him?

Even just drafting a Theo Ratliff type of center at the 14th slot would be considered a good/great pick. But surrounding him with the best big man training crew that exists, with as much raw talent as he has, seems to be a no-brainer if he is still there at the 14th spot.

Noooo way! Thabeet at #2 was not only a moronic selection but one of the biggest gambles I've seen in recent draft history. Thabeet takes the term "project" to a whole new level and I shouldn't have to remind any of you regarding Thabeet's dubious mid-season achievement that's never been done before. Plenty of people, myself included, knew Thabeet was THAT big of a chump.

Now admittedly, I've never seen Whiteside play outside of the Youtube clips. Even if he's just as big of a project and reeking with bust potential as Thabeet is, at the 14 spot in the draft the whole term "gamble" becomes less and less appropriate.

Yeah Thabeet played against the very best in College Basketball and Whiteside played in CUSA. Big difference. People need to chill out on the Youtube highlights.

If Henry is still there at 14 please take him Morey.

Yeah, and a project is still a project. What am I supposed to do.....see a guy with no discernible basketball skills and robotic body movements and think "OMG, he played in the Big East. DISREGARD!" to justify my stupidity (in this case, taking a player like that at #2)? I guess playing in the Big East will at some point save Thabeet's basketball career and eventually justify him being taken that high.

To be honest I think Thabeet will end up being a pretty good starter.

Morey was very high on him.

He started playing well after his stint in the D-league towards the end of the season. He will be better his second season.

Morey could get Thabeet for a future 2nd Round pick and very little else to go with it.

    :(

Thabeet isn't very good but that is just ridiculous. There's no way Memphis gives up on him that fast when he showed some progress late in the season and was deemed to be a project anyway. Put him on this draft and people are hyping him up just as much as Whiteside.

Judging by some comments here, it seems that the draft hype machine is working very well. On the other hand, the moment you are drafted, you are not interesting any more when there are new guys to hype up. Sure, assessing the prospect accurately is easier when he already has NBA experience, but the potential he has doesn't exactly vanish completely over one season.

And if you take everything that, for example, Nbadraft.net says seriously, every Nba team would have 5 future hall of famers and every guy would be an all star some day. Seriously, apart from the exaggerated strenghts, some of the weaknesses they bother to list are just r****ded like for example (paraphrasing): He has bad hands but they are actually soft so they are potentially awesome. WTF?

    7-7 wingspan and a 9-5 standing reach...

And he moves like a guard???

    Where do I sign?

Wow! Yao's reach is 9'8". Hassan can reach almost as high. That's crazy! It will be easy for him to train with Hakeem in the off season regularly, when Hakeem visits Houston to check on his investments.

As I said, no one is perfect at 19 yrs old. Stick him in the d-league for the year and keep check on his progress. Have your coaches work with him and see wat kind of student he becomes. At 14 and with a team full of good players, there is sill no reason not to take a project and deveklop him. I wanted them to draft deandre jordan a few years back. I felt like he would be a good backup and maybe even a serviceable center in a couple of years. Thought he shoulve been drafted before dorsey.

Dwight Howard was 240 lbs when he entered the league.

Whiteside has the frame to gain a lot of muscle. I see him more as a Howard with shooting ability than a Camby.

I think this kid is underrated on this forum.

imo Whiteside is the definition of what the Rockets need. A center that is an excellent shotblocker with an ok midrange shot. He's young and has the athletic ability to be something special. Reminds me of KG he is tall and nimble and can jump. What more can you ask for?

I read where Whiteside is seeing the Hakeem the Dream now, in helping Hassan with his game. Don't have link but I believe it was from DraftExpress.

Take that back, read it on RealGM and not Draft Express.
