Hasheem Thabeet to RGV Vipers (UPDATE: Makes his debut)

I disagree.... Thabeet was the apple in Morey's eye. I think that Thabeet won't be confused for an all-star. But he is going to be the poor man's Mutumbo!!!

The asset was a serviceable defensive backup, with potential to become an elite defender. The 1st round pick was merely a compensation pick, just in case the Rockets can't develop Thabeet. Memphis ran out of patience already.

Here we are going to have 1 summer to analyze his potential. Grizzley's have Zach Randolp and Gasol. With Gay injured, they needed to fill a hole with Battier - the playoffs are just too close to risk not making it. Thabeet was a project from the onset.

 

I'm guessing he didn't watch the game. Hasheem was far from being bad on D or the guy that hurt his team out there.

What he DIDN'T do was go out there and stink up the court. This is a good start for him, hopefully he will improve just a little bit each game.

 

I watched the most of the fourth quarter. Thabeet looked like he didn't give a ****. He didn't box out, didn't run, and didn't hustle. Even though the game was a blowout, you'd think he'd show good effort. I hope to see him perform better in other games.

 

That's why they're thinking about not re-signing him.

As for him being out of shape, I must be missing something. He's been in the NBA for 6 months straight this season.. how the hell can he be out of shape? Is he eating donuts while the rest of the team practices and plays the games?

 

There is a difference between being in game shape and not being in game shape.

That is true for all sports, that is one major reason there are pre-season games after all

 

Kirstee Alley Thabeet. If he's still a Rocket, we need to get him on the next Dancing With The Stars. They'll get his butt in shape.

 

Yeah, and just the other day I was thinking ."whatever happened to Antoine Walker." and now I know.

 

Actually, next season is guaranteed to him already, the option is for the two seasons after that for even MORE money than the near 6 mill he is going to get next season (barring a lockout, that is).

 

Good for Hasheem. Hopefully he will improve a little as he gets somewhat comfortable these last few games.

And what exactly is a poor man's Mutombo? Dalembert? Ratliff?

 

In the NBA he hasn't shown an ability to play good defense other than blocking some shots.

 

I honestly don't think Morey had any plans at all to resign Battier, so Thabeet is as much another expiring contract for next year as anything else.

 

Its hard to stay in shape in the nba when you're not playing. Practice time is so limited, the players have to do alot of extra work. When you're not in shape, you play high. A big guy like thabeet and yao ming, it really hurts them because they loose leverage. Go watch the 07 playoffs against utah and as the series go longer, we saw the big fella get tired.

What i saw tonight os what i expect and i think he's going to get better. What is also evident is the difference between him in the paint and a guy like hayes. Hayes may get a swipe or a charge, but thabeet made guys kick the ball back out. That helps your defense so much when other teams drive in, see a shot blocker and kick it out. I hope he stays in the the valley till the end of the year and get that real time experience.

 

Did they sign a guy named Bobbitt because they thought it would be funny to have both a Babbitt and a Bobbitt?
