I think they wanted him to do some work with CD first. And then Scola went down and they needed a big man on the bench just in case. Now Scola is back, Thabeet has no chance of getting on the court in the big league for now.

Like some has said, our D-league team actually develops players, unlike his time with Memphis when they sent him down.

From what the RGV coach said about his PT, it seems the Rockets want to challenge Thabeet to play to his level. 20 mins tops, more than that Thabeet will need to earn that PT

Good move to get Thabeet some pt. He has the right attitude and this will greatly help him in the end.

This and probably just have all the Rockets coaches get a good grip on him first. It's pointless to just send him down there immediately and tell him to play. In Thabeet's days here, the Rockets likely made a list of things he need to work on from workouts and practices, so Thabeet and Viper coaches know what to work on.

The Rockets are definitely one of the best in the NBA when it comes to young players development. So if Thabeet turns out to be a nothing, it won't be for a lack of trying.

lol... You think NBA players should take acting lessons? Yeah, that would've solved all T-Mac's problems. And Lebron would fix up those horrible, horrible interviews he gives, where he tries to seem humble by using the "humble" 95 times per 107 words, and starting every answer with "Aw, man, you know..."

I ditto this. He definitely not going to get any minutes this season as suddenly we're a legit playoff contender, again without a center. We don't even need him in practice. I really wouldn't mind if he hang up his laces for a few months and got into the weight room. I know he has a shot blockers mentality, but he plays "soft". I want to see him with Dikembe Mutumbo arms and Yao Ming legs. If he can do that, he'll play in 82 games next season and have some impact. I'm not expecting most improved player next season, but I think our organization is much better suited for player development that the Grizzlies. Doesn't hurt to have Olajuwon and Mutumbo on our side either. Ultimately, its going to come down to how much he wants it.

I don't think he should be carrying hos on the sideline at all. Save that for the hotel after the game. When he is at the arena, his head should be focused on basketball. ;)

The only way someone like Thabeet can improve is if he plays. I'm all for this move.

Not to forget Sikma. The Rockets coaching staff assess him first then he goes to D-League to work on it.

At 24 the guy has time to get his career on track and become a solid player. Unfortunately for him, he is now on a team that is surviving on a very delicate chemistry. Making minutes for him to get comfortable on the floor is pretty much out of the question.

I hope his confidence doesn't take too much of a hit and that he really makes a commitment to improve his game.

Id rather have Twill go and have Thabeet on the bench for a good bench presence at least. Thabeet looks like a light hearted individual and good for the Rockets locker room type or bench.

Looks like the Vipers have six games remaining in their regular season over the next two weeks. After that, there is also a post-season.

So, Thabeet should get to play in at least six games, with more if he stays around for the Vipers playoff run.

Are the playoffs in the D-league in a series format, or is it like the NCAA's where it is one and done?

Thabeet will be playing tonight (According to the Dleague site) and it seems you can watch ever NBADL game on Futurecast if you go to the site. No other Bball on tonight so I think i'm going to try to catch this.

    Sad when

    a) an NBDL team says that a #2 pick is going to have to earn his minutes to stay out on the court with them

    b) a #2 pick says he knows he has to prove that he is an NBA player to his team

The Battier and T-Will trades still blow, IMO. At least I can cling to a 15% shot that Williams will turn into a usable bench guy.
