I never tried appealing to anyone. I simply think that a shooting war with Iran is a very, very bad idea because given the difficulties we had with Iraq, the United States would need to be much, much more prepared - we simply do not possess the capabilities nor the political will needed to bend Iran completely to our will. The risks of fighting in Iran massively outweigh the benefits, and so I think actually invading Iran would be utterly stupid. But we still don't want Iran to have nukes - technically, the only country in the world I would want to have nukes would be us, but that's obviously impossible. So we have to make do with the next best solution of denying them to any country who might try to get them - we may be friendlier with the Brazillians than the Persians, but I'd still be angry if the Brazillians tried to build nukes too. That doesn't mean invasion, as I observed, but it does mean using other methods.
