T-mac "peaked" 5 years ago. He hasn't come close to having the season he had in 2003. PER since joining Orlando in 2000: 00-01: 24.9 01-02: 25.1 02-03: 30.3 03-04: 25.3 04-05: 22.9 05-06: 21.9 06-07: 23.2 The PER he ammassed in 2003 is 5 points higher than any of his other individual season. His efficiency went down for 3 consecutive years after that. His current PER of 23.2 isn't close at all. At 28 and with back issues, there's no way I can see him ever playing at that level ever again.
again with a jumpshot, that PER goes up to 25-27, which is good enough. remember a PER of 23 overall puts u in the top 10 of all time. and a 23 PER is like top 10 this yr DESPITE HIS BAD START so he could have had a PER of 25 or so. no one is claiming tmac is gonna be like 02-03 mac. that mac is jordan-like in terms of production. kobe the last 2 yrs couldnt match that PER. so its unrealistic to expect that. he hit 38% of his 3s last yr. if he makes his J, he'll be on par w/ kobe again. im sure tmac is shooting 1000 Js in his own gym right now
Top 10 all-time in what? And T-mac wasn't top10 in PER this year. He was 13th. http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2007/jh_ALL_PER.htm And T-mac's jumper wasn't the problem. According to Nba.com/hotzones, He shot 44.4% on mid-range jumpers this season, on 8.5 attempts per game. Kobe Bryant shot 42.5% on 7.3 attempts-->T-mac shot a higher % while taking more shots. The difference between Mac and Kobe this past season was that Kobe shot more close shots, shot a higher percentage on them, and averaged 4 more FT attempts than T-mac. If T-mac wants to get on Kobe's level, he needs to go back to penetrating like he did back in 2003 which is unlikely since he seems to be on the athletic decline and his back probably wouldn't be able to hold up.
Kobe's just a way more aggressive player than T-mac. What's separated Mac from Kobe/Wade/Bron over the past 3 years is that T-mac was never as aggresive goings toward the rim as those 3. Of the 4, Mac's the only guy who saw his FT attempts decrease after the handchecking rules were enforced more in 2004. Everyone else saw their FT attempts go up. T-mac didn't take advantage of them. He continued taking jumpshots.
