I went from being a hardcore religious conservative in my teenage years, to religious moderate around 18, to religious liberal in college, to liberal agnostic at the tail end of college, to hardcore liberal atheist after graduation, and now I'm more of a disillusioned left-leaning atheist. I just feel like nothing ever changes, so why spend so much time worrying about it? As Carlin said, "Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist." My views on religion changed my views on politics a lot...it's not that I don't care anymore about progressive issues, I've just realized how awesome it can be to live life carefree and in the moment. I guess I've become more self-centered. I care about politics and will always vote and follow elections closely, but it's just not as important to me anymore. Politics is like banging your head against a wall, and honestly I like as few headaches as possible.
Yes. I was always pretty liberal, thinking that government and business were acting immorally. In my freshman year of college I took a Logic course, another Intro to Philosophy course (which emphasized in-class debate), and a class called Composition and Rhetoric. Prior to this, I didn't really have a moral foundation for my political beliefs. After having my political beliefs challenged, I adapted my positions to fit within that moral framework. Today, I'd probably be labeled as more of a libertarian, and perhaps as a radical (because I don't believe that the current system can be repaired without serious changes to its framework, i.e. the Constitution).
