They were always that bad. You just had no taste when you were a kid. Those things, especially anything "meat"-based, were truly frightening. After fourth grade, I grew some taste and brought my own lunch every day for the rest of my school days... except once in ninth grade when I decided to try the burgers, see if things had gotten any better, and realized how truly awful they were. It amazes me to hear that some teachers will eat the cafeteria food too. I can't believe they can touch the stuff.
I used to live on an Indian Reservation in Arizona where my dad was the principal of a boarding school. As you can imagine, there was poverty everywhere. I would almost ALWAYS give away parts of my lunch to the other kids in my class. No matter how disgusting the food was, two or three kids would jump at the chance to get that extra food. I could never understand why someone would be so excited to eat such nasty food back in 1st grade. Now I'm old enough to get it -- a lot of those kids weren't getting much else to eat during the day -- they were that poor.
They haven't changed in flavor. Your complex taste buds have refined over the years, you old goody goody 2 shoes. Pot also made everything taste better.
I remember the spaghetti that was served to you from an ice cream scoop... SICK studies have shown that school districts that have opted for fresher, more healthy lunches (more expensive) and a more rigorous physical education program have seen dramatic decreases in student misbehavior and an increase in attendance and test scores.. they feed kids garbage, make them watch Toy Story 2 all time, and expect them to not act up or be stupid?
I remember the best lunch entree was the taco roll. It was basically a burrito with mystery meat and cheese inside of it. those things were great
I remember that by far the best cafeteria item at my high school was the chicken rings. Yes, chicken RINGS. I don't wanna know how they did it, but they did, and I was grateful.
The cheapest of the cheapest leftover ground beef. Not fit for sale elsewhere. No joke. You can read about it in Fast Food Nation.
When I went to high school, we had something called Western Burgers. It was ground beef and government cheese baked inside of a Big roll. It was incredible. I'd go get them now if I could.
I go to Westfield High School. Our food is ****. The only good thing is that our school has a Pizza Hut line with pizza from there... so it makes up for it.
Now i'm going to have to buy a hooker with dirty vaginal juices to see what this burger is going to taste like.. or I could just go to krystal burger and yes i think krystal burgers are worser than school food.
