After I saw "The Golden Child", I made my own Ratt tribute band. We rocked the schoolyard with "Body Talk".

man, that's funny stuff!!! i disagreed with the Coldplay part, because I really like them, but I died laughing at some of the sarcasm in the article.

my wife would strongly disagree with the James Blunt part. she freaking loves his music.

i'm totally with him on Beck. i know that makes me a freak. but I don't "get" Beck.

i thought he was spot-on with coldplay. they honestly have no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

the only two i disagreed with were the white stripes (because jack is actually a phenomenal guitar player) and RATM, but i definitely agree with his assesment regarding Zach's lyrics. you just cant deny that Rage f'ing rocks.

My guess is that people who love to talk **** about other bands haven't actually heard anything from them other than what they may have heard on the radio.

That's nothing. I can tell by just look at the photo that I wouldn't like Coldplay.

I didn't want to make a new thread but I have a question. I was watching VH1 history of metal show, and it got me thinking, what is the difference between hard rock and metal? They talked about Van Halen and I never considered them metal.

what is the difference between hard rock and metal?

The car starting guitar fill has to be in every songs. The pig squeal guitar sound effect leading into the solo is another marker.

Then I guess the media's idea of what it is and our idea is very different.

Not a big fan, but any band that can play the hell out of "Ring of Fire" live can't be all bad.

exactly, the last place you want to be relying on any kind of music definition is VH-1 of all places...

you make the decision for yourself :)

I'm an indie rock music freak, but I enjoy Coldplay and Audioslave. Sometimes, artists get bigger than the music themselves, and people tend to forget about their music.

If Chris Martin didn't preach about Make Trade Fair and other organizations all the time, people would stop looking at him as another Bono. Just focus on the music, and forget what they look like or what their non-musical message is.

i agree with some of your points. I think Chris Martin is a very good musician. But coldplay is just not my bag of tricks.

However, i do believe a bands message is equally as important as their riffs.

as UTWeezer said, coldplay just aint my kinda music. i've heard several tracks off their albums and really don't care for 'em.... but to each their own.

This is so true. So many people judge so many bands by so many different things that have nothing to do with their actual music. I'm probably guilty of this as well.

A perfect example of this (for me) is Smashing Pumpkins. Yes, I know Billy is a pretentious a-hole. Yes, I know they rip off My Bloody Valentine. Yes, I know they take themselves way too seriously. Yes, I hated when Billy shaved his head and started wearing a cape. Yes, I know many people consider them over-rated. I still love their music.

I work with a guy that listens to some pretty hard stuff, like Slayer. He tunes out the lyrics and likes the music, to each their own.
