Why? (not that I am a big Troy Smith fan...and he won't last past the 5th pick in the 3rd round)

In the new mobile Tony Romo ideal, he's elusive. He has a strong arm , he has big game experience and he's a winner.

He's way too short and won't be able to see well over NFL defenses. Plus he just doesn't fit the mold of a good NFL quarterback -- I see bust written all over him. I definitely wouldn't waste a good draft pick on him especially when I have serious quarterback problems and can't afford to gamble. Now Kolb on the other hand -- he just looks like the next Brett Favre. He can march an offense down the field like no man's business, doesn't fade under pressure -- the master of second half comebacks. He's even got the country boy thing down pat.

Kubiak made his bed now he has to lay in it.

    Maybe they take Brady Quinn?

Carr may have developed, but he is too beat up and his confidence is shattered.

I think Carr needs a fresh start....SOMEWHERE else.

Brohm would be an ideal fit for the Texans system, but he just announced that he's coming back for his senior year.

I agree that 4th is too low for Kolb, but he doesn't have the sick gun of an arm like Cutler does. I just can't see him jumping to the 1st round. I believe Kolb is projected to go in the 2nd or 3rd.

The Texans should just trade or cut Carr, and hope they can pull a 4th or 5th round pick for him. Draft a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round and allow him to develop under Sage for a season.

Call up the Saskatchewan Roughriders and see what it'd take to get the Round Mound of Touchdown's (Bruce Eugene) contract. He was a blast to watch at Grambling and supposedly scored the highest ever on the Wonderlic test.

Exactly how I feel. I'm done with him too. He's just not the guy for this team.

Someone else mentioned bringing in Plummer and at first I thought no way. But, actually, I wouldn't mind bringing him in to play and drafting a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round. Play Jake until the young guy is ready.

The Raiders are taking Brady Quinn, so let's not even go there. If Kolb or Smith falls to the 2nd round, I'd jump on either one of them.

If we don't draft a QB, let's go the way of the Saints and bring in a free agent. I have no idea who that guy would be, there isn't a Drew Brees out there as far as I can tell, but it would be nice to have someone who you didn't have to start from scratch with.

Heck, why not just bring in a servicable QB and build the team around the defense? Like the Ravens did a few years ago? With Mario and Demeco, we're already moving in that direction.

"There's just no excuse for putting the ball on the ground," Kubiak said. "If we don't protect and you get hit, you've got to protect the ball. (Carr) knows that.

"They were doing nothing defensively that we didn't prepare for. It got to the point that it looked like all he was doing was hurting us. So we decided to run the ball."

For all the nice messages delivered at McAfee Coliseum, that remained the troubling one. The Texans found themselves in a winnable game on the road and in essence decided to try to win without a quarterback.

With just four games remaining in the season, this year-long evaluation of Carr is running out of proving ground. The persistent question of whether Carr can be consistent is still there.

On this day, Carr had a lot going for him, even if he faced the league's best secondary. The Texans had field position, starting five drives at their 43-yard line or better. He was complemented by a 95-yard rusher in Dayne and a defense that put together its best game of the year, amassing five sacks and five turnovers.

Yet there was the question. Still hovering.

I don't buy that whole he's too short business. Vick is listed a 6' flat, and he has his problems with consistency but hes not too short to pass in the league. I am not a Vick fan and think he is overrated, but his height is not what keeps him from being a top QB, it's his command of the offense and accuracy. Well, Troy Smith is an inch taller, and a very accurate passer. I like Carr but the writing may be on the wall for him. So, why not Smith? He can move, is an accurate passer, and throws a pretty deep ball. The only thing with taking a QB in this draft is that with no Brohm the pool looks shallow: Quinn, Smith, Stanton, Kolb, and whomever. That means a potential exists for having to reach a round earlier for a QB than usual.

Ditto on all accounts. If anyone says Mario hasn't been playing very well or making a difference out there, they haven't been watching the games.

Maybe Bob McNair will promise Brohm he will pick him the first round to get him to come out :D

The Texans have huge needs all over the field, to use a first round pick on a QB to develop would be a death knell for Kubiak.

You can win in the NFL with a below average QB. The Texans need to build a badass D and pump up the OL (Spencer will be back). Carr can be good enough. (I'm the guy who says he can't find a secondary receiver and never looks off a safety but still he's not the first priority for addressable problems)

There aren't a lot of 'big' QB's coming out this year:

    Brady Quinn 6-4, 225 4.80 Notre Dame
    *Brian Brohm 6-4, 225 4.90 Louisville (X)
    Drew Stanton 6-3, 235 4.80 Michigan State
    Troy Smith 6-0, 220 4.65 Ohio State
    Kevin Kolb 6-3, 230 4.90 Houston
    Jeff Rowe 6-5, 225 4.85 Nevada
    Jordan Palmer 6-5, 230 4.90 Texas-El Paso
    Tyler Palko 6-1, 220 4.90 Pittsburgh
    John Beck 6-2, 215 4.90 BYU
    Trent Edwards 6-4, 220 4.80 Stanford (X)

    Chris Leak 6-0, 210 4.80 Florida

    Jared Zabransky 6-2, 205 4.60 Boise State
    Isaiah Stanback 6-2, 210 4.55 Washington (WR)
    Luke Getsy 6-2, 225 4.90 Akron
    John Stocco 6-1, 205 4.90 Wisconsin (X)
    James Pinkney 6-3, 205 4.80 East Carolina
    Lester Ricard 6-4, 220 4.80 Tulane
    Drew Tate 5-11, 195 4.80 Iowa

Mario Williams has made a difference.

Vince Young has made a deep impression.

I've heard some very interesting news concerning the offseason. Take it for what it's worth, I don't believe it 100% but the source is reliable. 1. Parcells is going to retire after the season. 2. Most of the assistant coaches from the Cowboys are going to come to the Texans (some have already started preparing from what I've heard). 3. This is the part that really makes me question everything...Jeff Fisher is suppose to go to the Cowboys.

As for our QB situation...Carr has been the only constant since Day 1 for this franchise, if McNair doesn't see it yet, then this team will never get better.

I'm hoping for Kolb in the 3rd, maybe Troy Smith in the 2nd.

At this point I'd rather see the Texans start Doug Flutie at QB then David Carr.

Someone said on TV yesterday that Fisher had worked out a deal to stay with the Titans ....I can't find anything saying that is true, but it would be just like Bud to make the contract announcement this week from Houston.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Texans picked up a solid vet that could compete for Carr's spot in the off season along with spending a mid round pick on a qb. Their 1st round pick had better go towards helping the secondary or a running back

Ohio St lists Troy Smith as 6'1", but from a couple of things I've read, he's probably going to measure slightly under 6'0" at the combine. He's a good qb and moves well. He has a good arm also. I don't think any of the qb's this year are as good as Leinart or Young.

i don't think the texans can afford to keep carr around. not just from an on the field standpoint. he's the face of these "dark times" you're talking about. i don't think mcnair will keep that around.

I think I can't answer your question until the end of the season (meaning "no, he has not made his choice").
If Carr does not pass for more than 250 yards in one game for the remainder of the season and we win, Kubiak will say CARR is done at that time.
If Carr passes for more than 250 yards in any one game for the remainder of the season and we lose, Kubiak will make a decision at the end of the sason.
The only way Kubiak will make up his mind soon is that he will wait to see what the remainder of the games will make Carr do. I expect David to do well at home against the TITANS. Let this season be over to let Kubiak make up his mind, please.
It's than, not then, Saint Louis. ;)
