I have high hopes for Morris as well. However, until he shows it in the NBA, I'm not going to say he doesn't have a chance to bust. He needs to show he can guard NBA 3's and be able to get his shot off against the tighter defense.
I didn't catch the game. Was Morris guarding Leonard? Does he count as an NBA 3? Some players still haven't shown the ability to guard a 3 after several years, but they are still playing. Carmelo, Peja(just retired), Nocioni, Childress. Any Phoenix Sun.
Was only watching a little of the game. He was guarding the 4 due to the limited number of big men. Didn't see if Leonard ever played the 4.
He can get better, not a lot better, but better. He too often settles for 3's when he could do more by attacking. He's not a bad defender, that is one of the most irritating myth's about Chase Budinger. Two full seasons worth of data, and every defenseive metric suggests he's an adequate defender. Not a good defender, but not a major liability either. His problem is he has been forced to guard very quick 2 guards, instead of his more natural fit at the 3, so he gets burned. Offensively he'll never be a go to guy. He can slash, spot up and be a catch and shoot guy off screens. I am convinced he can be the 3rd scorer on a championship level team. He's also an underrated passer. He did average 16.4 Points per 36 min after he took over for Battier. A Sean Elliot type is his ceiling to me, but I don't know if he has the mental toughness or want-to to achieve that level. He'll never be a star though
Agreed. Especially since Morris is already looking good. Buds gotta be thinking that Morris could take his starting job. Time to put up or shut up.
He has the tools to be a good offensive player but not being to play great defense hampers his ability to be on the floor with Kevin Martin, I think. He tends to coast a bit through games as well. He seem to show the drive to want to be great, but that's really all speculation.
Bud turned it on after becoming the starter, obviously seeing what he an do in a full season as starter will show just how good he can be...he has shown late last season that he can improve his defense as well as being an efficient shooter...his stats don't look great cause the terrible start he had but I think he can be very solid on both ends...I wouldn't sleep in him
Twenty years ago you would have a point. However, in today's NBA a 6-8 SF is almost too small. Most of the better SFs are 6-9 and 6-10. Tell me how a 6-6 guy can keep a 6-10 or 6-11 SF from shooting over him.
And I guess next you're going to tell us that most PF's are 7'1" or 7'2" and most centers are 7'4" to 7'5"? The best SF and perhaps best player in the league (Lebron James) is maybe the only SF that fulfills that description....and he does not touch 6'11".... Actually I can't think of anyone else that even comes close, seriously....what the **** are you talking about?
In all seriousness, with the athleticism and quickness Williams has, I think he may be able to guard the SF but I agree with you that he would be better at SG provided he can develop his shot a little bit more.
I think what he meant was there will not be any surprising developments from him other than an average improvement.
Bron 6 8 Melo " Durant 6 10 Gay, granger 6 8 So yeah, the current crop of sf are all big. Only iggy is 6 6. I think Twill is a slight smaller. But he is also the best wing defender in the nba. Nine of the players above have a true post game and instead rely on their perimeter skills, so twill on defense should be able to hold his own. That is also why morris will be a match up nightmare for backup sfs because his post game is elite among 3s.
Lowry had no improvement his first three years and everyone showed patience. Why claim Bud has peaked after two, especially when he played well as a starter? There's got to be a reason why Cbud is never mentioned in any trade talks, despite being one of our bigger trade pieces. Lee, Scola, Martin, Dragic, Hill, and Thabeet have all been in rumors. Bud seems to be as untouchable as Lowry. Morey obviously thinks very highly of him, so maybe he's got more potential than everyone gives him credit for.

Josh Howard had some very good years and he is about the same size as Bud. Caron Butler is also about 6'7". Same with Paul Pierce. Plenty of other guys in range. Bud is not undersized. He may be under-talented in comparison with the stars, but size is not the primary issue. Same with Squid. Someone shooting a contested J over you on the perimeter is not a big deal as long as you mpove your feet and stick a hand in the face (Our guys are so short that their hand level doesn't reach the other guy's eye level) and keep them out of the paint.
