While Morris may flop in the NBA, there is plenty to be excited about. On Bud, I keep waiting for him to have a breakout year shooting. For a shooter, he sucked at shooting 3 pointers last season. I would like to see him at SG if the Rockets trade Martin.
Someone said T Will has "upside". lol. Sure and so does a 9th grader. Maybe if he can be in a real game and not bounce the ball off his face then we can see some of that upside. : ) I'm as excited as the next fan about his upside, meanwhile, Bud for THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This year will see him be pretty much what he will be, same for most of the 09ers...the 3rd and 4th year are traditionally where players find their game. DD
Chase has always struck me as a guy that should methodically improve rather than in spurts. Of course he then proved me wrong by not stepping forward last year. Overall though, I think he's someone who can improve on the little things with more experience. But he may never be the shot creator or distributor that you'd expect from a star level player. Morris and Motiejunas OTOH has that 20ppg type of potential. They may not reach that, but there's enough skillset to make it happen.
How old was John Lucas III when he peaked? Or Roderick Rhodes, Michael Dickerson, Stromile Swift, Eddie Griffin, Steve Novak... just because someone is getting older , doesn't neccessarily mean they are going to get better. Some guys are what they are and some have evolving talent. I think he has indeed reached his potential and I am not sold on his abilities
He hasn't improved much since his freshman year at Arizona. He is what he is which a decent role player on a good team. He will never be a star because he can't break a man down off the dribble.
I think the greatest hindrance is that nobody's pushing him to improve. Adelman wasn't a development coach. He taught plays, not skills. And I haven't seen McHale working with the perimeter players much.
Career progression is totally random among random players. Nobody knows when or how some player might peak or regress. Sometimes guys turn into stars who were not before.
Chase slumped last year came after he hurt his ankle. The only thing really holding him back right now is dealing with these ankle injuries but that's mostly down to luck.
No way will Morris be a bust like a certain 7'3" center. Morris is fundamentally sound with inside and outside skills to kill the opposition. He will only get better with that tough philly mentality. In two years time, I expect him to be one of the best NBA s/f's.
They made a lot of development from their 1st year with Adelman. Peja had his best years with Adelman. Kevin Martin improved to 16 ppg by the end of his 2nd season. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/predrag_stojakovic/career_stats.html Bibby was ok in Vancouver, but he became a star under Adelman. After Adelman, he regressed. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/mike_bibby/career_stats.html Lowry made his greatest improvement under Adelman, so did Brooks, Budinger, and Landry. Brooks and Landry had their best years under Adelman. They haven't been nearly as productive playing for other teams. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/carl_landry/career_stats.html
he's too mentally weak to ever be a consistent contributor over an entire season, much less in the playoffs
Like I said, I doubt they learned new skills from Adelman. They just naturally progressed as players/learned by themselves. Spacing and plays, maybe.
