    OK, Bonds is an ass.

What, you don't like my obscure Airplane references? I was going to go through the whole spiel, but I'll save it. ;)

He was riding his motorcycle in a dangerous way in violation of his contract. My three year-old niece knows that doing wheelies on a motorcycle is stupid and dangerous. Of course, all the speculation could be wrong, but I doubt it.

How can you even argue that the guy doesn't play hard? He's easily one of, if not the greatest players of our generation.

HOOP-T, I enjoyed them. I was about to go into the whole abortion thing, but I didn't really remember it word for word. :D

Does your three year-old niece do things to intentionally hurt herself?

I can argue that because I've watched Bonds play for a long time. I've seen him play a lazy ass left field, letting balls fall in front of him that he easily could have gotten to. Dropping balls because of his one hand glove flip thing and balls dropping behind him because he didn't hustle for them. I've seen him pose at the plate while his fly balls bounce in front of the fence. He's a great player but he's also a punk and a hot dog. If it were not for Dusty Baker covering his ass, Barry would be on about his 5th team by now.

Wasn't Kent the guy who criticized Bonds for not showing up for the team picture when he didn't either, or was it merely in the same article that had all the Kent quotes?

But you would think that a grown man who has all kinds of responsibilites, especially to his family, would know better compared to a three year-old.

Kent was just having fun. You can't fault a guy for that. I'm glad Kent was ballsy enough to say that Bonds wasn't a popular guy. I commend him for that.

BTW, Bonds went to ASU I believe.

Kent isn't the most liked guy out there either. I know in New York and Toronto he was generally disliked by his teammates. It's kind of weird how they ended up on the same team.

I'm not defending Kent, what he did was completely idiotic but I don't think he did it to hurt the team. He just acted irresponsibly and the result is that he's hurt the team.

ahhhhhh...Dave Matthews..and now this!! more common ground!!!

I don't think Barry Bonds is even close to the monster the media makes him out to be. Kent is an idiot!! Agreed!

Kent wins??? what the hell does Kent win that Barry doesn't win?? Kent didn't help his team a whole helluva lot last year when Barry was carrying them to playoff contention.

Barry is bar none the greatest player of my 27 year lifetime.

How does being being great have to do with playing hard. He didn't play hard in my estimation and still puts up great numbers.

Doesn't hustle when he doesn't need to. The problem is sometimes he thinks he doesn't need to when he does. The Astros have won atleast two games that they shouldn't have against teams with Bonds in which a little hustle from him could have changed the outcome.

Without him, they'd have lost more. He helps the team more than he hurts them by far, but I'd take Sosa over him any day.

Sosa is a great player...but he's no Barry Bonds. Bonds' numbers over the course of his career are ridiculous. 2001 was one of the best seasons by a hitter....EVER!!! Sosa seems like a nice guy...but I'd much rather have Bonds. Bonds is the kind of player I would feel priviliged to get to see play everyday...only other athlete I've ever felt that way about is Michael Jordan.

I find Bonds annoying at times, but I don't think he is appreciated enough. Take away last year (in which he had an .863 slugging average, no less!) and he still is one of the top players of all time. I think people too long remember him not being able to throw out Sid Bream in the early 90's and forget what a great defensive player he has been. He has won *eight* gold glove awards. Has he won all of them on reputation? I don't think so. I think that Bonds gets such good jumps on the ball that it makes him appear like he is not giving it his all. In any case, I don't think you can extrapolate from one, or two mistakes that Bonds dogs it, or that Kent tries to hurt his team intentionally. If you watched Bagwell and Biggio in the playoffs you might think they shouldn't be in the major leagues, much less in the hall of fame (where they deserve to be eventually, I think). I'll return you to your regularly scheduled Airplane references...;)

Kent wins in that I think he's a better guy. Bonds is clearly the better player though.

I hardly think Barry is a great outfielder. If he's such a geat outfielder he wouldn't have been playing left field for the majority of his career. Andy Van Slyke played center in Pittsburgh and when Bobby Bonilla was moved to the outfield for a while they still kept Barry in left. The fact is that he's playing the least demanding of the three outfield positions and he'd probably be a very average centerfielder or rightfielder in his best days and a below average one now. In addition, Barry didn't win his first gold glove until he became an elite offensive player. If you look at the history of the gold gloves for outfielders in the National League there hasn't been a left fielder other than Barry Bonds win the award since 1981.

Sid Bream was old, fat, slow, and had two friggin knee braces on. Barry is probably the only gold glove outfielder in history that couldn't have thrown that guy out.
