but these guys are ex-NBA players/Greats that's whats alluring. Nobody really cares about coaches Xs and Os. Part of it is entertainment. If it was all basketball 101, it would be so boring. All the stuff they do with Charles is funny stuff. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RN_YknAryS0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RN_YknAryS0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I completely agree. I watch the TNT crew because they can be hilarious. They have little basketball knowledge, but they can sure be funny. One of the best segments ever was Kenny Smith trying to jump over a sports car like Kobe ....
But that funny stuff could become the stupid stuff without much knowledge, Many times Kenny Smith can not speak a complete sentence without a stop (as someone pointed out here). That is not good for the kids on the national TV.
Possible theories on why Barkley hates on the Rockets so much: 1) He came to us in '97 expecting to win a ring and it didn't happen 2) Les stiffed him on his salary in his last season (or so Chuck believes) 3) He is bitter about us knocking out his Suns in back to back seasons ('94 and '95) especially after Phoenix led in both of those series and they had gone to the Finals the season before PLUS Jordan wasn't playing in '94 and was rusty in '95 4) He really doesn't care - he is just on the air to make outrageous statements so people will watch for the entertainment value & he especially knows how rabid of a fanbase the Rockets have and that if he says negative things about the team, then people on Clutchfans will go apesh!t. After careful consideration and deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that Barkley's hatred of the Rockets is caused by all of the above.
I don't think Kenny Smith can have an affect on someones speech just from watching him once a week or so. And if it did, I would blame the kids parents and teachers for letting it happen. Their are bigger things to worry about than Charles and Kenny Smith's grammar.
I was just joking, do not think the kids will watch this kind of show too much. As for the basketball, I gave up this show long time ago, I just watch the game, switch the different channel, the come back later. There are so many interesting stuffs on TV to be followed.
but why are you posting on this thread if you claim to not watch the show? for example, i don't watch Lost so I never go on the Lost threads and comment on the show. but you claim you hate these guys but you need to comment on a segment you never watched.
Charles is a lot like Bill Walton in commentating. You can never take what he says too seriously. This brings up a ROFL moment when I was watching SA v Detroit Game 5 of the 2005 Finals where Bill Walton was ripping the Spurs to shreds in the first half and my brother who is a Spurs fans was getting really upset like he wanted to puch the tv type upset. I told him to calm down and just watch what Bill Walton says in the second half. As predicted, Walton changed his tune and my brother was shaking his head in disbelief. Wasn't it Charles who once said, "It's good to be in the butt-kicking business." Look at how that turned out. Charles as a ball player and a quote machine when he was playing was HoF but as a presenter, he's mildly entertaining. I bet Charles is a closet Yao fan but he won't admit.
