He went from a single double threat to a triple double threat by the end of the season.

What were the expectations for Ariza? I've defended him here the whole year, and he's fine, especially with that strong finish.

Right. We were expecting Kobe.

I am glad I was one of the few who didn't bash Ariza to death. Ariza's play improved upon Martin's arrival when the former could play his natural position more.

Good game by Ariza. Get this - since the All Star break (23 games) Ariza from the field shot .443 FG% and .410 3pt% Only 1/4 of the season sample but Ariza finished the season with Von Wafer type shooting.

Lets look at another area, his 3pt attempts. Its really astounding that Ariza has shot over 400 threes this season. Now that the seasons' over looking at it, REALLY?

Out of Ariza or the 2 guys around him in the rank, who do YOU want firing 3's for you...
Ariza has the worst career 3pt% by far out of that group (.320). His 3pt% THIS year is tied for the WORST with Lebron (.333). And we know Lebron can lend a few more intangibles than Ariza. Thats more "stretch power forward" percentages than designated 3pt rifleman stats. I dont care how good his recent shooting his, Ariza sticks out like sore thumb in that group and shouldn't even be in the top 40 in attempts really.

Again Ariza has shown short term improvement but is it enough to outpace himself from the other options? A triple double will get people thinking

He has come on strong after coming back from his injury and posted near triple double numbers in the last week until tonight he got his first triple double.

I like him for our team, especially his aggressiveness. When our offense goes dead, how many times has he made an aggressive move that paid off for us? He'll be even better next season when the big guy comes back

That's great. Ariza made me nervous at the beginning of the year, but he really finished strong.

When he tries to create his own offense, he is terrible.

When he plays within the system, he is actually worth his contract.

With Yao coming back next season and K. Mart having a training camp under his belt, I think that, for the most part, his numbers will stay where they are. I am hoping, however, that his efficiency will improve. I wasn't all that impressed with his defense this year, so I hope next year he will be able to focus more on that side of the floor.

As far as C. Bud is concerned, I doubt he will ever start over Ariza, but he could be a top 5-10 player in the league off the bench. 14/2/4 is not bad at all for April, in only 24 mins a game.

he sucked at the beginning of the year. face it.

even the ariza "haters' said he is more fit to play along solid scorers because he is a forward, NOT a guard and came out to be true.

thank god we got martin so aiza could play his natural position and seems to be doing better as a 4th option.

hopefully he continues his play into next season.

BUT HE NEEDS TO WORK ON HIS FREE THROWS!!!

Agreed. Too lazy to look it up his historical fts percentage, but dude appears to be a worse ft shooter than Hayes  (at least this year).

According to the lofty expectations that was set upon him, Ariza sucked. Some of the coaching staff , and us fans were expecting him to come in a be a focal point scoring wise. As we see, he is not that. The sample space that we saw in March and April will pretty much be what he can and hopefully do his whole career as a Rocket. He has the ability to be a stat stuffer and do everything "well". His ball handling does need work, but not as much work as we make it out to be. I think that a lot of his "mis-handles" came from being thrusted into the playmaking role.He just wasn't ready for that. If everything goes according to plan next yr, he can definitely be a 4th or 5th option with 3rd scorer capability. Imagine that. All these years we have been clamoring on here for a 3rd scorer and now we have the potential to have 5 starters in dbl-figures in 2010-2011. And as for the folks who say he's overpaid...You can't put a price tag on championship experience, youth and athleticism. Something that we lacked for years. For the MLE, that's not bad at all.

Only way he becomse a star if he works on his ball handling and shooting. Too many ugly drives to the bucket and rushed jumpers. I love his D and jump shooting.

I think he has improved more after Martin came and ariza was more comfortable in his new role.

Not every factor in a basketball game are determined with stats. Just the obvious ones. A good example is with Shane Battier.
I personally like that Ariza is on the Rockets team and he can bring more to our team when he has learned so much from a championship one.

Wow, that's actually really encouraging. He increased his assist/rebound rates, too (see: triple double on the last game). He could pair VERY well with Yao now that he's realized he's a pretty good catch-and-shoot guy.
