I like when someone said they had seen Hakeem in the grocery store and asked him if he would be around next season..of course Clutchcity berrated him and asked for proof of photo..to which he replied with actual hidden camera photos of the Dream at a grocery store..

There was also the scoop that caused popeye to disappear for a while and finally come back as oeilpere.

It's very rare that any of these insiders guarantees their scoops will come to pass. They're mostly snapshots of what's going on with the organization at that moment. I really appreciate that and understand that most of the time discussions don't pan out. I still really enjoy knowing from trusted sources (like Doc Rocket, oeilpere and Clutch) what's being discussed.

That said, Doc Rocket has been saying (in unusually un-cryptic terms) that we are definitely serious about Yao (and not for trade bait), and that has come true as well.

I really don't understand the thrill that some posters get out of trying to discredit these guys. They are what make this board exceptional among fan boards -- them and the conscientous, dedicated admins.

I come here first to read good, reliable insider info and second to read smart, thoughtful basketball insights from posters like heypartner.

If the title of this thread were:

"Has Anyone on this BBS ever posted a trade rumor/proposal that was a <b>true proposal</b>"

then you'd have to say that Clutch has done this countless of times. Clutch considers accurracy in reporting crucial to the success of this BBS, and goes out of his way to verify every rumored trade proposal. He probably will not say this is true, but from my seats, he is somewhere very close to 100% correct that everything he posts was discussed by Rockets brass. Clutch strikes me as someone who would rather not say anything than spreads unconfirmed rumors, or worse, hurt the Rockets cause with stuff that he was told not to print.

I'll say one thing, if Clutch is not 100% accurrate about trade proposals having been discussed, then I'd say he has chosen not leak real items more than he was victim of an unsubstantiated rumor.

The only achilles heel in Clutch's armor regarding accurracy would be his weakness for dreamcasting Cuttino getting his stupid butt shipped outta here for a player to be named later. If you ever see him biting on a Cuttino for a pepperoni pizza trade, you should probably just let that one slide. ;)

I think what superkev is looking for is of all the BS trades that get posted here, have any ever come true. For example, the Pippen trade, after it went down, looked like something that gets posted around here all the time: One superstar for a bunch of spare parts that get traded so salaries will match. Has anyone ever pulled a bunch of players out of their ass and had it come true?

I am going to guess that the answer is "no," but it would be interesting to see how close people have come.

I am pretty sure that was the Mobley re-signing.

Yeah, it was. Didn't want to open an old wound, but since it's been opened, yeah it was.

it's not a trade or anything like that, but wasn't it Old School that reported "a major rockets player has been arrested for DUI"?

I had reason a while back to read through a lot of Clutch's old headlines and discovered that there were quite a few things that he reported were brewing (on the front page, even, not just the BBS) that actually came to fruition.

    great thread topic..

I think that clutchs predictions/ posts and the one rocketman34 ( mall scoop) are the only legit predictions so far that I can remember and I just linked to the threads listed in this thread and am not a believer.. sorry..

those reports of others mentioned in this thread and so called legends are greatly exaggerated.. I have been here since 99 and I have nothing to lead me to believe any of the "scoops" from our other  experts are legit nor just armchair mental masterbation..

that being said its funny to see people fall over themselves for every post by the so called insiders..

basically listen to clutch..and thats it...all the rest is BS..period..

sirhangover: You say only Clutch is the real deal and the others are frauds. Doesn't add up. If you believe Clutch, you should take him at his word on the insiders too. Clutch has said repeatedly that Doc and popeye have legitimate info. In fact, on the Ming issue we got the first instance of each of them commenting on the other, since they each had slightly different information. Popeye said that, although Doc Rocket's info conflicted with his own, Doc Rocket was the real deal and that he deferred to him. Even though Doc's info conflicted with just about everyone else's (including TroyBaros, popeye and ROCKET!!!), the ones in the know backed him up and the China trip proved him right.

Isn't it more logical to assume that some talks fall through than to assume that the draft day deal with NJ, Mobley's extension at a reasonable price, and the Shandon and Rice deals were lucky guesses?

We still haven't seen a trade prediction confirmation such as 'I think Cato + Walt + throw in for Pippen etc.. etc.. in advance.'

I wonder who our Iron Man trade prediction artist is - if someone has suggested a trade in advance and we can confirm it, I think we should crown him/her the official BBS title 'Clutch BBS honorary GM' :)

On the other issues such as 'inside' predictions - - - nobody thinks or expects these to be 100% accurate or near it. Obviously at the clubhouse dozens of ideas are thrown around and many come down to the last minute Insiders can only tell you the ideas that happen to be further along or are more serious than others.

On the Ming issue (had to bring this up, hehe) It seems that despite 'deferrals' the three main people with information have landed with differing opinions on where the Rocks stand. OP says trade likely, Clutch says likely to keep, Doc says basically keep under any circumstances. IMHO it seems very likely considering the efforts that Ming will get picked and we will stay put with the pick.

yes batman they were not lucky guesses but they were merely stating the obvious at the time...

if I read enough from here and there (ex: peter vecsey, feigen, bskball.com, etc) I could come in here and say this and that.. people here would begin to think I was on the inside as well as these so called pretend to...

i can throw everything from those sources and some will stick..

we should have a how many didnt come true thread and those 'in the know' would have a very high percentage of not happening so can we assume those just didnt happen by chance related to those that did? the record would show in favor time 20 those that didnt...

and lets not praise anyone on the ming thing..

we need a big man : obvious
we were going to at least negotiate with ming to see what it would entail: obvious
we would probably need to go to china to do so: obvious

now..as for ever since we got the draft pick our GM and RT have been on tv radio etc talking up ming they have never strayed from that stance..

I come in here and says there's a strong chance we are going to get ming and I am a bbs legend?? weak.

what I am saying is clutch may have this and that from whoever and he can get enough reports to cross validate..

i dont think the rest is worth sh*t and stating the obvious shows nothing more then a pathetic desire to get recognition on an internet website..

    thats sad
