No, but I don't know anyone who has been charged with tax evasion either. Guess it doesn't happen.

That begs the question: What is brutality?
How slight or How extreme must it be to be Brutality.
Now we can descend into what is and is not Brutality.
Slamming you into the car . . .is that brutality?
Or does Brutality require a punch, kick shoot etc?

Had a buddy that was beaten and shot in the spine by cops. He’s now in a wheelchair for life. Was a former triple a ball player too.

Also an acquaintance from high school was let go from 1 police force for being caught on video using unnecessary force, then was hired by another smaller police force

Usually don't care to post John Oliver since he's more comedian than news reporter but the whole transferring a shitty cop to a different PD and looking the other direction is par for the course.

Also I don't buy that cops are underpaid. APD and AFD pensions make up over 70% of the Austin's budget. This does not reflect on other towns and cities where LEO are paid less handsomely but this poor civil servant schtick is a load of crap.

I do, but that's not the point. We are talking about police violence that is perceived to be a major problem by some groups. OP is trying to figure out if this type of violence has commonly occurred among people here. Even if he has an agenda with his question I still think it is a good question to ask so we can hear the experiences of others. It seems like we've all run into ******* cops but only a couple of us have experience violence or known someone that was a victim of police violence. Also, I think if he started a thread asking people here if they have personally or knew someone that has been raped, beaten, murdered, assaulted, or abused then the answer would probably be 100% yes and it would probably be more than a few people they have known that experienced violence.

Secondly, and most importantly, this needs to be emphasized and recognized. Police are very minimally trained to deal with physical confrontations. They have very poor training in how to properly restrain people. These two combined create major issues with how they react to stress and how they simply deal with physical altercations. It leads to cops killing or seriously injuring people they are trying to arrest or restrain because they don't know what they are doing.

I do jiujitsu/submission grappling and one of the black belt instructors is a cop and he tries to get other cops to come in and do training with him at least once a week. He doesn't have a lot of success with that. However, this one newer cop (I think like a year or so on the job) came in to train with us and he had absolutely no training at all in dealing with physical confrontations. It was mind blowing. It was like Austin PD just gave him a badge and a gun and told him to fight crime. I was going over some basic control stuff with him but when I was mentioned aspects of protecting his gun while trying to arrest or control someone he said they didn't have any tactics for that. He didn't even know how to deal with a simple haymaker that some random drunk ******* might throw. He was doing a good job listening to me, but as we were working and lightly sparring I could tell how quickly he was getting stressed and getting to the point where he was just working on adrenaline and panic.

My HPD friend said they don't train cops how to deal with physical altercations anymore. If I recall correctly it's either the gun or taser for HPD. I watch some of these attempted arrests sometimes and it's so painful to watch how poorly the cops are trained and using their clubs to try to control a suspect. It makes no sense and only creates more problems and leads to brutality.

So my point is that I feel a decent chunk of brutality relates to the poor or non existent training that cops have. I think people assume cops are well trained and only decide to beat or shoot people because they can. To me it is that they are poorly trained and often panic due to lack of training. They get out of control with a violent response because they have minimal experience with controlling their responses and emotions to a fight situation. That's my quick assessment.

Have any of you been murdered or raped by immigrants?

    Simple question.

I think OP ended up responding pretty well/openly as this thread went on. But my initial impression of the question and the dialog with RR was that he was treating the issue and RR's experiences rather flippantly. Hence, my response. I get your point re:training.

It does happen, I know that. It's never happened to me, but I am very very careful around cops. I don't give them any back talk and I do exactly as they tell me, even if I think I'm innocent of any wrongdoing.

I was arrested once and everything was handled professionally. But, once again, I was exceedingly polite and made every effort to do exactly as I was told.

don't know anyone, but then again I'm not black, and I'm in Canada. The stuff I hear are always passive aggressive racism from cops.

As well you should be. The black president sent his black attorney general to investigate Ferguson. Michael Brown was not an innocent victim.

A lot of these incidents on camara are questionable because the victim didn't take your advice. Ive been arrested. Ive had a cop apologize to me for the way he took me down which was totally unecessary but it wasn't a beating

Last thing on Ferguson. Its basically East St Louis, one of the worst ghettos in this country.

Sadly it had a white power structure because the 66% black population didn't bother to exercise the freedoms people died for them to have

Dont vote when you're the majority then riot. So many things wrong with that place that has nothing to do with police

    But i digress
