    That still has nothing to do with this thread. The kid never claimed to get those comments from Trump and gave a non Trump related explanation for them

    This is not a non story about Parkland. The activism of this student and others were a particular poignant angle to the Parkland story.

    This kid's activism in particular was a story

    16 year old actions shouldn't define you, but they are certainly fair to consider when you are trying to get into one of the most prestigious universities in the country. These colleges are going 100% based on what you did in high school (plus whatever value your family has added financially or through being legacy at the school).

    No i don't think he should be rejected simply because he was sixteen when he wrote the comments.

    IN ADDITION, he is being punished for his popularity, in the sense no one would know about those comments otherwise and i believe Harvard would not care if not for the publicity

    Also no one is saying he can’t go to another college. He just isn’t deserving of going to the best school because he showed poor judgment at a minimum. There are consequences for our actions.

    Not a fan of this. Who hasn't said stupid stuff as a teenager? He sent an apology letter that seemed sincere. This punishment doesn't fit the crime. Harvard should have him take some cultural studies class and put him on probation.

    there are juniors who are sixteen years old.

    If applicants can't be judged for their behavior when sophomores or juniors, how do you look at GPA? Lot of kids do poorly because of poor study habits or being too immature to apply themselves.

    Ignore that?

    Because college admissions are based first and foremost on academic performance. Everything else is extra

    Im sure colleges forgive past non academic transgressions all the time if not forgive not even take into account.
