Sorry, I'm not following. Dobby has excellent oppurtunity to know a monster will be released at Hogwart's that will hunt out none pure bloods like Harry (Mom was Muggle born). Harry was going to go to Hogwarts. Even though the original plot wasn't directed solely at Potter, Potter was in danger. Dobby feeling indebted to Potter went to warn him.

Hmmm. I just checked around and found out that Harry is indeed not pure-blood. In the first movie (before they get sorted), Malfoy tells Potter something to the effect that "great wizarding families like ours have to stick together." Why would he say that if Harry was not a pure-blood? Especially given Malfoy's tirade against mudbloods. Also, if Harry was NOT a pure-blood, I would imagine it would have mentioned in the second movie, much like Hermione's background was. It never was. Strange.

I think that the fact the Harry had defeated Voldemort made him such a great and mysterious wizard. Malfoy knew this and that is why he stated "You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, I can help you there." He wanted Harry to befried him instead Ron, a Weasley who was not near as wealthy as the Malfoy family. He was saying that the Weasley family was not as good as the Malfoy family.

Oh yeah, a mudblood isn't someone like Harry. Unlike Hermione, Harry had at least one parent who was a wizard, his father. Both of Hermione's parents were Muggles though. Yes, that still doesn't make him a pure-blood but it is a little better than a mudblood.

    Speculation Warning
I think he was refering to the Potter side as being historically a great wizarding family since Harry's other side wasn't. I think Potter family heritage was why the Potter family was targeted by Voldemort. I got the impression somewhere that Voldemort killed Harry's mom because she was in his way, not because she was muggleborn or a threat to his power. Harry is the last in the Potter line which may or may not have a history of opposing evil.

Still, why did Malfoy offer friendship to Harry if 1) he's not pure-blood and 2) Voldemort (who, at some point, is/was in league with Lucius Malfoy) wants him dead?

Regarding the plot to kill Harry, I think that if Lucius really meant to kill him (i.e. he was the sole target), he would have dropped the diary in his bag, not Ginny's. Remember, the result of the Chamber of Secrets being opened was the removal of Dumbledore from power. This, I believe, was Malfoy's real plan. He was the one who coerced the other board members to strip Dumbledore of his Headmaster status. Why? Perhaps because Dumbledore is the only wizard strong enough to oppose Voldemort, and his removal clears the way for evil. Now... how does Dobby fit in? He probably overheard the plan and came to warn Harry. The question is: Why did Dobby choose Harry of all people to warn? Why not go straight to Dumbledore?

As for Potter's mom, she tried to protect Harry from Voldemort and gave her life to save him. That's why Harry's touch was fatal to Voldemort.

    Vecseysux,

On friendship offer, harry is very assuming. Was it a legitimate offer or a trap? Harry could easily have been at the Malfoy house instead of the weasley house if he accepted.

The Malfoys also wouldn't let principles like pure blood rob them of an excellent oppurtunity at power.

Why Dobby went to Harry? He was magically restricted from doing a lot of things. Stopping Harry from going to Hogwart's was the only thing he could probably think of that he could do to protect Harry, who he felt indebted to. dobby makes no attempt to save anyone else..its all about saving Harry.

Just my thoughts...not enough proof to give a solid answer to if this is a plot hole or just not enough information.

True. Having Harry in the fold could make him easier to kill later on, I imagine. However, it is entirely possible that Draco is completely unaware of his father's dealings with Voldemort and thus offered friendship to Harry without knowing that his father was indirectly responsible for the deaths of Harry's parents. Personally, I don't think Draco is really evil (unlike his father). Yes, he's egotistical and jealous of Harry and often says vicious things to rile him up, but he seems harmless. Perhaps Draco and his father will have a showdown in the future. Y'know, evil vs. not-quite-so-evil. Who knows? It's all just baseless speculation, anyway.

heh, I started to read the harry potter series until I stumbled upon the hobbit, then the Lord of the Rings.

LOR is the most addicted story I have ever read...(still finishing up the return of the king). Great books. Great movies. I love it soooo much.

Since I have just started to enjoy the Harry Potter phenomenom, how often do the books come out? I know that "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" comes out June 21st. What is the average time span fromone book to the next?

It was once a year I believe until #5. If I remember correctly, there was an error in the first printing of #4. My copy did not have the error as I've seen it shown on websites

Rowling is richer than the British queen Elizebath now. She's got 280 million pounds. That's pounds, not dollars. I'll write Parry Hotter and rival her!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I just finished the third bok and I have to admit that I was a little shocked and a little disappointed but overall it was a good book. I now have to start Goblet of Fire and hopefully I can get it done before Friday when Order of the Phoenix comes out at midnight.

Can anybody give me a summary of Goblet of Fire, without giving away TOO much of the book?

Vescey - My rants were not about hidden evils. They were about the idiocy of the entire series. I'm not some religious fanatic...

The fourth book is pivotal, a lot happens. I would just read it. #4 is my personal favorite so far.

I would really like a synopsis of the book though. I have already began to read it.
