Rockets get their 2012 protected pick back and get him off the Nyets hands. He's not good but its a position of desperate need and if we get something in return why not.. even to let him sit on the bench.
Billups at his age needs to go to a contender.Rox aren't winning a title with him,and he'll btoo old by the time we get a good enough team to contend.
Just throwing an idea out there. I'm just saying that it would be an awesome choice to have him around Houston, like all the people who wanted Bosh or Carmelo. I'm sure you're right though, what is attractive about Houston? Who cares about young, rising talent and a lot of potential. Who cares about a team that is one good player (maybe two if Mr. Big Shot was recruited) away from a championship? I guess I'm just a hopeless dreamer...
I don't think the Rockets would do this trade FOR Johan Petro. Petro in this scenario is Jared Jeffries.. just.. a lot less skilled. The Rockets would do this deal to get a first round pick back. They can insert Jeffries into the deal as an expiring contract or acquire Petro with their trade exception (in which case they might look to deal Ish Smith to get create a roster spot; Jeffries won't accept a cheap buyout and a salary dump of $6.8M will cost more assets than Ish Smith's salary would.) The Rockets could be in a position to acquire Petro in exchange for their protected 2012 1st round pick back. This would give them the flexibility of trading the 2011 pick should the right deal arise. On the other hand -- the Rockets could acquire one of the Nets other 1st rounders, namely Golden States (top 7 protected), Detroit's, or New Jersey's 1st rounders. Should the Rockets wind up in the 2012 lottery, this would give them three 1st round picks. This would be a big asset going into the draft, should the Rockets want to move up in the draft. We know they've done it before with Eddie Griffin. $3.5M a year for a 7', no matter how bad, is not expensive enough for me to say no to a 1st round pick. We would be taking advantage of a team looking to cut cost -- it's time to put Yao's insurance money back into circulation!
I hope y'all realize his stats are low because he hardly plays...and he hardy plays because he's got a pretty good center in front of him....he's not great, but it's something to consider besides looking strictly at his stats sheet.. He's pretty mobile at 7 feet, good athleticism, similar to Dalembert...he's not as bad as he's made out to be. It's a different look that we dont have at all and should only help the team.
Is this what the Rockets' season has come to, that we're actually inquiring about Johan Petro? I'm depressed.
I have a hard time getting a read on this guy. One "potential" guy I would love to have is Alexis Ajinca.
Height. Better play-making abilities. Better defense abilities. Averages more points and assists. As of right now a better shooter. (.44 vs .37)
He wants a B/O if he gets traded period. He wants to play for his hometown. (hint hint, Denver) He basically told them trade me for assets, Ill come back.
Agreed on almost everything. I'm pretty sure the conversation (from Morey's perspective) will start with the Rockets getting their 2012 pick back. Like you said, that pick gives the team back the flexibility to offer picks in 2011 AND/OR 2013 (not enough has been made of the fact that the Rockets currently cannot trade their 2013 pick, either). There is NO FREAKIN' WAY that the Rockets are getting the GSW pick. That is definitely one of the two first rounders going to Denver. Honestly, I don't think Denver even trades Melo to New Jersey in the first place without getting that pick. Next to Favors, it's the best trade asset that New Jersey has.
If he comes with draft picks, hell yes! Picks are how you get stars! Obligatory... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/saBzFAhCP8Y?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/saBzFAhCP8Y?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
It won't be a lottery pick coming back, I assure you. The best pick the Rockets can hope to get by taking on Petro's salary would be their own lottery-protected 2012 first rounder, although I'm pretty sure that New Jersey would be resistant to giving that up. The Nets could possibly give up something less to Detroit to get them to just shut up and take Petro back in the three-team trade.
