I agreed with you untill I read an elaboration

A surprise inspector coming to check the locks and SOP of the school they are inspecting after announcing who they are in a proper uniform etc is reasonable. But this seems like what i initially thought. Sneaking into a school unannounced. This is asking for trouble.

A unannounced date for inspection by an inspector is one thing. A surprise sneak attack to check for holes in security unannounced is ****ing insane.

Haven't you heard that the solution is to turn every school or avenue into an armed fortress to stop the bad guys?

Because gun control obviously would be absurd.

    Let's investigate some scenarios

    - Inspection performed and shows problems or nothing - all OK
    - Good guy with a gun sees inspector skulking around - shoots inspector
    - Bad guy decides to act like inspector, wreaks havoc
    - Inspector shows up, 911 called on suspicious person, police resources wasted

Trevor Noah zero'd in on how silly this all is. In short, GOP's latest talking point is blaming doors. Yes, doors. As if this is the only country on earth that has "soft" doors. We all have doors, we don't all murder dozens of children.

You are correct. There is only 1 problem. Everything else is a symptom of the gun problem. World peace can be achieved if we can simply ban guns.

Schools in TX were already "hardened" after many school shootings. Sure, go ahead and harden it more. Given the pathetic police response, do something there too. Given a need for fast coordinated responses from multiple areas, expand school shooting drills to include 911 operators and police response. And tackle the gun problems. Universal background check, raise the legal age, limit high capacity mag to only those that have a justified need, limit military-like weapons to only those that have a justified need, require liability insurance, limit guns ads to kids, universal health care with mental health as part of it, ...

Do not forget the mental health need of kids everywhere. Each and every time schools go through active shooting drills, realize that makes kids more aware of the dangers and when they do hear and see real school shootings, it is a traumatic event.

Ah the old bait and switch, there are other problems but the access to guns is the problem with mass shootings.

Every other countries has schools, mental health issues, regular doors....and they don't have mass shootings.

It is 100% bullshit to blame it on anything other than it is....

Jesus, I love John Oliver. His delivery is a little over the top but he does an amazing job painting a story backed by amazing research.

"Only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is with a good guy with a gun"
...except aren't all of us capable of being a bad guy on any given day?

Nobody is inherently a bad guy. It would be nice, if in a moment of weakness, nobody handed me an AR-15.

    I mentioned to someone

We would all be amazed at how many people are alive today
because a gun was not readily available.
Whether they didn't have one .. left it at home. . . had to go to the car and get it but thought better of it on the way
Someone was about to be blasted and simple time and distance is the difference in them being alive.

Not like they have not been telling the truth about it if the rest of those self centered old farts up there would see it things would have been better a long time ago.
