Asik can compete at a high level against premier bigs in the league. I would rather upgrade at the 4 where the NBA-readiness is so subpar that McHale feels he needs to use Delfino there.

Upgrading Asik to Howard will not be as big of a jump as upgrading Dmo/Power Parsons/Jones to Aldridge. Unfortunately, Aldridge is not available right now.

The other posotion with major upgrade room is point guard. I would be fine with Beverly starting if our power forward addition was a star like Aldridge. But since he's not available, we have an opportunity to upgrade Beverly/Lin to Chris Paul.

If we sign Chris Paul, we should make a move for David West. He's not a star, but his skill set and talent fits the starting lineup perfectly. Good postup presence down low, range and a toughness. His attitude would bring toughness and an enforcer mentality this team could use, especially in the front court. David West is who I would go for.

While I do clamor for that second star, signing Howard would force the Rockets to move one of its better actually-producing prospects in Asik to the bench or another team. Maybe they flip Asik for West, but the backup center would be a glaring hole once again.

Just thinking outloud and typing it here. I'm upset we lost. But the offseason is one of my favorite times of the year, especially with Morey at the helm and Harden hinting with recruiting.

Are you kidding me? Robinson is a defensive playmaker, he has much higher upside than Patterson, Robinson has smooth mechanics on his jump shots meaning he can develop it..

It can't be overstated how valuable it is that Harden wants to be a part of this (the recruiting process). It's easy to forget, but the Bulls were in our shoes three years ago. Had Derrick Rose and a terrific young team along with max cap room. The difference was, Rose was intimidated and standoffish to the idea of LeBron or any other 1A/1B situation. He didn't campaign against it, but he noticeably wasn't warm to it -- instead focusing on the idea of HIS team.

In the end, that's how you end up signing Carlos Boozer to a near-max deal (this year, that means Paul Millsap) and cementing your status as a very-good-but-not-great team. Harden gets the big picture and isn't about ego. Great to see.

Outstanding post. Especially the part about the need to have a better coach.

OKC killed our bigs with sheer athleticism. Now, you wanna sign Millsap, someone who is equally as unathletic as Asik?

    No thanks.

Please Please Please no Howard. He is going to bring this team now.
Asik is a better player than anything we have at PG or PF. It's simple logic that's where you look for an upgrade.

James Haden + Chris Paul + Dwight Howard VS Lebron James + Dwyane Wade + Chris Bosh.

The NBA Finals we all want to see.

Should we attempt to sign Garnett for a year (if we can persuade him) and try to pry Aldridge or Love next year? To me, the priority by position is PF, PG, C, SF and SG. If we can find a PF who can score, I think Asik is a good bargain at C position. We need to dip into our resources to help him with his post games between McHale, Dawson, Olajuwon or maybe Yao. I know Howard is good, but I can see Asik as the C of a championship team if we have other pieces. Garnett can mentor those young PFs while we are looking to trade them away. If we can, I would trade away Lin for cap space and trying to get Chris Paul. If this fails, Jarrett Jack would be a nice one to compete with Beverly.

I felt the same way until...
    the quote below...

If Lebron and Wade can play together effectively then I think Paul and Harden will have no problem.

it'll be effective because unlike Lin, CP3 can knock down shots and create MORE and better D.

Harden and Wade both need the ball to be effective, but Wade is actually a good defender.

I agree. The defensive stats with Asik on the floor were excellent, so having that kind of production throughout the game by adding Howard, alone, would make the Rockets true contenders.
