I don't really see how LeBron had a bad year just because his ppp on ISOs is low. He was efficient (.588 ts%), continued to distribute well and lowered his turnovers too. He was still a beast in transition and other facets. Really, he just had a bad year shooting the 3. Just shows how much he got better elsewhere.
First of all, don't use fg% as that is only part of the picture. Use ts%, so you account for free throws and the extra points on 3 pointers. Free throws are obviously a huge part of Harden's game so you need ts% in order to include those. Harden had the 5th highest ts% on the league last season. He's always been uber efficient. Currys numbers are the best in the league but he definitely benefits from the offensive weapons around him. Defenses can't load up to stop him like teams do against Harden. You don't see Curry having to go 1 on 3 because everyone in the building knows that he's his teams only offensive threat. If you surround Harden with s bunch of elite offensive players then he'd get a lot more good looks and get more chances to attack a single defender and his percentages would reflect it. It's just common sense that if you are girded by more defenders then it will be tougher to score.
How are you filtering this? Harden was 28, but there were several guys ahead of him who were bench players or low usage guys. Notable names: Curry .669 Durant .634 Reddick .632 DeAndre .628 Kanter .626 Kawhi .614 Valunciunas .610 Dwight .604 Dudley .602 Gorgieu Deng .601 Harden .598 Klay .597
To get qualifiers, filter by fga/game > 10. http://stats.nba.com/league/player/...ular Season&CF=FGA_PG*GE*10&sort=TS_PCT&dir=1
That's just an arbitrary threshold used in this thread. The FG% threshold is 300 FGM. The FT% threshold is 125 FTM. TS% doesn't appear to have an official qualifier, so we make one up. If you filter by the FG% qualifier or the FT% qualifier or both combined, Harden is #11 in the league. But, when you look at that, 6 players rarely if ever shoot 3s (Whiteside, DJ, Howard, Valanciunas never, and Kantar, Deng, 21 and 20 3FA respectively) . So if you want to compare Harden to shooters, Harden is #5; otherwise, I'd say he's 11th based on using the FG% leaderboard criteria. Or just use the arbitrary 10 FGA/gm or some point threshold like 15 pts/game -- both give you Harden as #5. Point is, not much use comparing him to non-shooters like Whiteside, DJ and Howard.
The media voted Harden > Klay for MVP http://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/awards_2016.html#mvp
the nba has the worst knowledgable voting nba voters when it comes to awards. Curry just got exposed brutally in the finals on the defensive end by everybody and their mother, klay has never posted a PER above 20 in his career. I mean, the nba feels like its marketed to 8 year olds
Yeah they should definitely vote based on PER and who they think will win the FINALS when it hasn't even happened when the award is given out
