Either Harden is preparing for leaving or is not caring much for winning if he did not say anything in picking new coach.

Harden is responsible for the GM duties, the coach duties, the ownership duties, the offense, and the defense. Am I missing anything?
Harden's "hand" in picking the coach probably went something like this: Les picks his dream coach in MDA. Asks Harden if he is cool with MDA. Harden says sure, whatever, I remember him from the Olympics. Les nods and that is that.
Yes, according to some posters Harden has control over players. If they talk badly about him, they will not be able to re-sign with the Rockets or ANYWHERE else in the league for that matter, as player or coach...so you forgot the most important one: other than running the franchise, he runs the entire league.
