Why are these two things considered at odds with one another for so many posters? I see tons of posts where someone says something about Harden's MVP to which someone else responds with "all that matters is playoff success" or "championship only!" I don't get the logic behind this problem. Do you guys not appreciate Hakeem's MVP? Why is rooting for Harden to get a personal award somehow seen as anti-team? For me personally, Harden winning the MVP would be awesome. It's a national recognition of the greatness we witnessed in a season and it makes for something you can talk about years down the road. "Man, I remember that year Harden won the MVP. blah blah" When Rudy T referenced Olajuwon in his championship speech, he made reference to Olajuwon winning the MVP. Interested to see how the poll results shake out...
I'm pulling hard for an MVP for Harden, as I think that is more likely than a Rockets title this year. I think he deserves it and I want to see him rewarded for the season he's given us. However...any self respecting fan would obviously value a title over an MVP. Obviously both would be amazing, but I do agree that it's weird how some people feel like one is related to the other at all, though.
Of course you value a title over the MVP, I just don't get why that needs to even get said. Someone says "man, a game like that will help Harden win MVP!" Someone responds with "Man, all that matters is that we win a title!" I don't get that. A title certainly matters more, but an MVP for the best player on your team is a good memory too. Why wouldn't you want BOTH?
Harden could average a triple double while leading the league with 40 ppg but doesn't mean anything without playoff success
Titles lead to MVPs. I'm actually hoping he doesn't win this year, Steph Curry does, then Harden goes Hakeem on the Warriors
"I root for both to happen and see no conflict" Like that last poster who wanted to throw a game against atlanta to further the MVP debate for Harden?
I voted for the second option only because I'm traumatized from Lebron-only-fans, Kobe-only-fans, and Lin-only-fans.
We all know what happened in '95. BUT, the best thing would've been Hakeem winning MVP and destroying Robinson.
