Thankfully I think this is because that's the message swirling around the coaches and team and Calvin is just putting it out there.

Harden saying a thing like this makes me think he knows it's already lost, which is good. I think there is a slim chance he wins it still but if he goes into the first round thinking he lost maybe there will be more of a fire.

I really wish Harden wouldn't address the MVP award as much as he has in the past and during this season. His play has done the talk and unfortunately this year Westbrook had a historic year and is finishing strong.

If Harden doesn't talk then no one will talk for him...

I think Harden is just reminding the voters.

Also all while Westbrook blatantly stat chased a triple double.

The more we try to advocate the award for Harden, the more the media and the like will continue to drive the narrative that someone else is deserving of the award. We need to stop obsessing over this one damn thing so much, and focus on winning FFS.

Look at the ESPN comments on that article, as well as video comments on Harden highlights. The dude is getting bashed now because our team is obsessing over the award as of late.

But for a majority of the season, the team was getting love by all fans. On ESPN articles and videos, people were coming around on James. Russ ended the season the best way possible for him and for the casual NBA fan. So if he wins MVP, let it be.

It would be so embarrassing for us to continue to advocate this one accolade and lay a goose egg in the first round.

Leonard is really good but he has Aldridge which can be looked at as another allstar player. Granted he hasn't played on a allstar level. Leonard if you take his numbers and carry his game over to Houston or OKC as the main piece he would be so irrelevant.

Curry deserved the MVP in 2015. I'm not impressed by comparisons of per-game numbers. Curry played 4 less minutes a game because the Warriors were blowing out the competition with him on the floor. He had a higher PER, WS/48, BPM, and RPM than Harden. He validated that MVP choice by winning a championship and turning in one of the great individual seasons in league history a year later.

Harden has a much better case this year. But not as solid a case as Curry had the last two years.

As for what can he do -- how about win more games? 55-56 wins is nice, but it's not a great record as MVP winners go. If he elevated the team to where people consider them a legit contender, that would be enough to offset the fascination people have with Westbrook's gawdy stats.

based on what. statements like this are just complete assumptions, absurd at that. why do people feel like they have to try and bring this guy down despite being a great player. An all nba player, mvp caliber, all star, whatever you want to call him. If you still cannot acknowledge the Kawhi Leonard today would be great on any team then you just aren't paying enough attention to how good this guy has become.

Harden needs to just handle business on the court. Sweep OKC out the first round....... sit back & laugh.

If I were Harden, I'd stop the media from asking questions about the MVP thing by saying something like, "I need to focus on the playoffs right now and don't want to be distracted by individual awards. Ask me about it 2 months from now and I'll have a better answer."

Would not sit back and laugh

No time when the Spurs could gentleman sweep us potentially in the 2nd round.

I'm not scared of the Spurs. Grizzles will give them a hard time. 6-7 games.

The media asked him about it. Do you want him to say no comment because I could see even more hate for that.

If the Grizz are healthy(huge if), they could beat the Spurs. San Antonio has had a rough time with them this year.

Based on the fact that he is not a point guard type star player like Harden, Westbrook or Lebron. He benefits playing under Pop for the Spurs. He's a great player but he doesn't do what those three i mention does and he doesn't have to... unless he was put on their teams as the main piece. That there is common dam sense.

Exactly, I don't know why he even make a comment on that to seems like he care about the MVP. He can make a much better comment by just saying his main focus is winning the champion.

actually it's not. you're just assuming teams would play the exact same way with those players when that's not the case. Kawhi Leonard today is good enough to have as much of an impact on winning than any of those guys and the fact that he is a 2 way player makes it that much better. What he doesn't put up assist numbers that are off the charts like the rest of the guys? so what. he's a capable playmaker now and makes high iq plays. He for damn sure can score just as well as any of those guys now and his post game has become a nightmare matchup for defenders. just stop with this benefits for playing spurs stuff. That had some truth to it years ago. Today none

This is moot when Kawhi turns it up in the playoffs. He may not be the MVP of the regular season but he would want the Finals MVP title or at least fight for WCF.
