Harden edged out by Irving for No Defense Player of the Year, but makes No Defense First Team

James Harden's defense is waaay too oversold at this point. It'll be primed for a nice rebound year next year.

 

Off a quick glance, Harden was NOT guarding Corey Brewer, but whatever. Everyone knows he has effort issues on "D."

But seriously, I guarantee you this guy has watched about five Rockets games all season. He's generally right, but only off reputation, not because he actually knows anything about the Rockets.

We need to understand, that Morey ball doesn't care about defense. It heavily relies on Harden having to absolutely score in the clutch. If you want Harden to play better on defense, don't run your players in to the ground. You also make sure he has some kind of a back up position wise, a better defensive roster overall, and a consistent third scorer to take a lot of that pressure off him as well.

It's not just Harden. I can only name two good defenders on the entire roster. That would be Bev and Dwight. Parsons went from great to scrub, Lin is too short to guard his rightful position (SG), Asik doesn't give a quarter of the effort he did the year before last, Jones and Motie can't stay on the floor because they can't defend, and Garcia and the rest of the bench can't even stay in rotation.

Morey needs to put defenders on both sides of Harden. If not, at least have a few on the bench, who can be called upon. Morey has to produce a better roster, period. Lin needs to go, Asik needs to go, Parsons needs to move to the bench or to be traded, Garcia and Casspi can't see any PT if brought back or kept, and one of the young PF needs to go in hopes of bringing in a starting PF.

Harden needs to play defense. No getting around that. But, it starts with Morey playing defense first. He failed us this season in the playoffs, by not finding any quality defenders, as well as not putting a proper coach in place who can make proper adjustments when needed. Our offense and defensive schemes are far too simplistic. I mean, it's on the level of a high school team.

 

It really can't be overstated how much Harden does not play defense.

Why must we try to pretend?

 

Problem I have with harden on defense isn't that he's bad. The problem I have is that too many times he doesn't even try.

It one thing to be bad...something totally different to look like you don't give a ****.

The good thing is Harden's D can't possibly get worse so he is bound to improve.

 

I think that would require a heart transplant.

Not many fans think it is a big deal, and Harden doesn't think it's a big deal. NBA doesn't care either, Harden still gets in the All NBA first team. I wonder if more people will care after 3 years of first round exit. Only time will tell...
