I do not agree, maybe later on. Watching Yao grow into a superstar was cool and Yao was a good guy with a lot of heart.
Yeah. It's really Harden or T-Mac. As good as Yao was while he was on the court, he was hardly on the court. T-Mac put up some amazing performances in the playoffs (yeah yeah we didn't get out of the first round). I want to see that from Harden too. But man I love watching him play.
I think it's up to the GM to either convince the owner that he needs to spend more or tell him that a player is valuable and work within the owner's constrains. Les said he didn't want to tank and Morey built a team without tanking. All GMs have owners that want certain things done in certain ways. Ultimately, I agree it's the owners call. I'm just sayin'.
Keep in mind we never saw prime Tmac in a Rocket uniform. While he was still good as a Rocket, he had peaked with Orlando.
I'll say this - the last Rockets jersey I bought was Hakeem's and I'm planning on buying a Harden one soon. He is becoming one of my favorite all time players (still behind Hakeem though).
Both Yao and T-Mac had some great games in Houston. If I had to say the best Rocket since Hakeem, for now I would still go with Yao. It is unfortunate that we could never see what they would have been capable of if they had both stayed healthy. However, this season so far, Harden has looked just as good as both Yao and T-Mac's best times in Houston, and certain games even looked better. He will have to keep it up for a longer period of time to pass either of them, but he has shown that he is capable of becoming that.
I think the potential is there, but he's not there yet. Regular season makes all-stars and HOFs, but the post season makes the greatest to ever play the game. Hakeem had this confidence in the post season that there wasn't anybody else on the floor as good as him. The greats of the NBA turn their game to new levels in the post season. Harden doesn't do this yet, he will figure it out, but not yet. Also, Hakeem is believed by many to be only second to Jordan as GOAT.
Easily the 2nd best because of his durability and is a serious weapon every time he controls the ball and is a legit passer. A seriously smart basketball player when he's on. With his defensive prowess coming around it is a lock.
