Magic did it for the Lakers....is there a shot Harden could do it for the Rockets? Maybe if he had a personal stake in the results, he would find the motivation to play defense and quit partying til the wee hours in the morning. Sounds ludicrous, but it can't be worse than having Dantoni or Blatt trying to motivate the guy. Harden has been given the keys to do whatever he wants anyhow, so you mine as well give him full blame or credit for the team's failure or success. If we are not going to give the job to Vogel or JVG, then why not just skip the middleman and give it to Harden?

Player coaches have not been allowed in the NBA since the salary cap was instituted in '84. The reasoning for that was that it would be too easy to circumvent the cap if a player was also allowed to coach. i.e. underpay as a player and overpay as a coach. Magic was never a player coach. Magic was retired and didn't play from '92 to '95. He coached the Lakers during the '93-'94 season. He later came out of retirement and played the '95-'96 season.
I really disappointed in the Rockets and Harden. Knowing the troubles behind the scenes with player relationships and the dysfunctional, I feel cheated that I invested in so much time rooting for the team this season when they had no hope or chance to do much of anything.
we do need a new defensive assistant coach now that jb is gone. harden can fill in that role, assuming the team is the same as last season. im all for it. re-sign dwight for ft shooting coach. maybe we can pry parsons from dallas to see if he wants to be our aesthetic trainer
