I bought a ReadyNAS NV (they have NV+ or NV Pro models now, I believe). I think I paid something like $600 with no drives and that was a few years ago. But you can get cheaper 2 drive versions which should be enough for most people. Netgear bought them out a bit after I bought mine (which ticked me off). They have great support and post help/solutions on their forums. You can get the ReadyNAS Duo for $340 or so. I think for that price you get 1 500 GB hard drive in it (but you may want to make sure). Buy another 500 GB drive and you get redundancy. There are other companies out there that make similar products and some cheaper, but from looking at forums and reviews, none at the time had the support that Infrant (now Netgear... eh) had. I've had mine for a few years now and it's performed well and had no issues.
