My father died in 1989 and my daughter lives in NY so I spent the day with a group a little kids who either don't know their father's or their fathers are in prison. I must say I had a great day!
I thought of a practical joke to play on some of my single friends...send them a father's day card from some random city with some random name on it. I'd have to be there, though, when they got it to see their reaction...
hope everyone had a terrific one yesterday. we went out to visit my grandfathers grave early in morning (he passed last saturday) and then the family headed back to our house for some kickass breakfast... chilaquiles, fried eggs, pecan and cinnamon french toast, bacon took it easy for awhile at the house then headed to my aunt and uncles place to relax in the pool and drink cold beers and margaritas. fired up the grill later in the evening, threw on 8 juicy ribeyes, some talipia, fennel and garlic steamed mussels, seafood paella, awesome roasted garlic mac and cheese, grilled veggies, and a fresh salad. it was a damn fine father's day.

Sorry yours sucked. What happened? Mine was as good as I made it. Woke up to hand made cards from the kids. Then I made them some cinnamon rolls and took them shoping at REI, HEB and the pool store. Came home relaxed in the pool with the kids and some drinks. Fixed my fathers day dinner of Rib Eye's, Bacon wrapped shrimp, Baked Potatos, Grilled Corn on the cob, and a HUGE lobster Tail off the grill. I cooked my own dinner but I shamed my wife into doing the dishes since she put zero effort into fathers day.
Sounds like a lot of work, but I've had your cooking, so I know it was worth it. Personally, I made sure not to do a damn thing. Was on 'vacation,' got up later than usual, got my two homemade handprint/footprint father's day cards, took a drive through the hill country, watched "loudQUIETloud" on free movies on demand (good, if a little deliberately controversial) and just basically relaxed all day without feeling like I shoulda been doing something else like I usually feel when I'm relaxing and making sure I'm doing nothing. Oh, and I did fix my gate, so now the remote works. life is good.
