    According to the Vietnamese. Cats were left off of the Chinese zodiac while rats got in. According to my grandma that is why cats chase and kill rats.

    Let me elaborate on what you said. Most of what you said is true, but the Chinese occupation is cummulative, not continuously 1000 years. Back then there was a Chinese general sent to the land of what is now Vietnam to colonize it for his Chinese emperor up north. After he conquered the land, he decided to make himself emperor and called the conquered land his country. So the Chinese (about 50K) mixed with the natives living in the land. Think of Spaniards and Mexicans. This is why Chinese like to claim Vietnamese are Chinese decendents, but it is only half true to a certain extent, since their were more natives living in the land at the time of the colonization.

    Like we don't classify Mexicans with Spaniards or Americans with British, it is not right to classify Vietnamese with Chinese, dispite the similarities due to over 1000 years of cummulative influence.

    Anyone going to the Chinese Community Center Saturday?



    I used to go to Chinatown in downtown Houston, but not anymore.
