Agreed. I can't stand the guy. I liked him as a Rocket, but since he became an analyst he seems to act like an ass. Also he seems to have an anti-Houston bias.
I just watched the Rockets/Suns game 7 rerun. Smith was getting murdered by Kevin Johnson and it wasn't even funny. I was glad to see the "kiss of death" everyone was talking about here. It was cool!
Smith used to get murdered by everyone. For a pg, he was also below average for driving and setting up people. We all remember how Derek Harper molested and then proceeded to rape Kenny Smith in the Finals. It was in broad daylight, with all the children and women watching. The only reason Kenny Smith lasted as long as he did and has 2 rings is Hakeem Olajuwan. That's why I dont understand guys like Smith, Greg Anthony and Legler. For being nothing special, they sure seem to have a theory on everything. As much as Greg Anthony talks, if you didnt know his history, you would think he has 11 championship rings and used to do a good job on Wilt Chamberlain by holding him to 50 points.
Dude was on fire in the series against Orlando though, set a Finals record for 3's made that I think still holds today.
they played a longer video clip of this on TNT last night. before Yao said "Happy birthday kenny" he sat there talking to somebody off camera about how his hair was too long and need a haircut and then when he was ready to speak he was like "Are we ready" , then he stares in a way a shy kid would look at the camera and says " happy birthday kenny" really quickly expecting him to say more. I think yao is awesome but that clip was hilarious

He was also on fire against the Jazz in playoffs on occassions and was pretty decent against Suns too. But they were all open looks from the 3 point complement of Hakeem. Most Rockets fans would agree that they would get nervous when he was pressured. He hardly drove. His assist numbers for PG were not good at all. And his defense was as good as Rafer Alston's, which would be non-existent. What good moments (shooting wide open 3 point shots) he has had has been because of Hakeem. But he has an ego of a dynasty maker. He just spews a lot of garbage on TNT. Barkely jokes around but a lot of times Kenny tries to be serious and come up with theories. It's like he is trying too hard to sound smart. Oh yeah...Happy bday!
