Shaq in his prime would have put up a way better fight. Laker Shaq was unstoppable. Only one man that stopped laker shaq :

From '95 till his prime Shaq just developed his up and under move, his baby hook and of course his basketball IQ.
Hakeem had alot of more ways to score wether inside or outside. What realy made Hakeem unstoppable was the combination of his ball handling and his midrange jumpshot. If his matchup backed off Dream just took a midrange jumpshot and if he was guarded tightly he just dribbled by. What seperates Hakeem from Shaq on D was his ability to destroy the opponents pick and roll.
Therefore Shaq would still lose the matchup even in his prime.
