I've been Crossfitting since February, and I do it exclusively now over traditional Globogym workouts. I'm curious the intensity level you can get doing a similar workout at home. I'm not sure I could duplicate the intensity I get at a Crossfit gym.
I am going to put on about 34 lbs of beer fat in 2009, and in December, I will get the implanted fake abs. They will float on my beautiful beer gut, and they will slowly start to list to one side, "cattywumpus," as my mom would say. That will be a great day.
I don't think the average person could duplicate it because of the other people watching you and egging you on helps a lot in Crossfit. So it's not really a question of equipment but psychology. However, I figure that I'm getting 60% of the benefit of Crossfit in 20% of the time, which is more than sufficient for me to make progress at my level. For comparison to Xfit, my Monday workout was 4 deadhang pull-ups, 6 pushups and 20 air squats per round. I did 28 rounds in 20 minutes. It felt pretty intense to me (but not insane). The only piece of equipment I really want right now is a sandbag so I can use it for overhead squats.
My gym only has pairs of 4kg, 8kg, and 12 kg. It is ordering the 16kg, 20kg, and 24 kg. I am pretty much the only person using them at 5:00 a.m. so I can double up for the swings, but it will be good when the larger ones arrive.
I posted this in another thread, but I'll do it again here. 2 year 24 Hour Fitness membership for $299 ($12.50 per month!) I just got mine in the mail today and will be activating it tomorrow *Current members are not eligible, the offer cannot be renewed at the end of 2 years, and it is not good for "Super Sport" or "Ultra clubs".
I'll probably start my program on Tuesday of next week after the last of my travel will be done for a while. About 18 months ago I was down to 170lbs, 9% BF and a running pace of 8mph for 30 minutes. Now I'm a touch over 200lbs and no telling about the BF. I'll be weight training 3 days a week. Jogging/Running 3 days a week. And I'll eat 6 small meals a day, roughly every 2 1/2 hours with tons of protein. Last time on the program I dropped 30 pounds in 6 months, while replacing fat with muscle.
Wow. You just made my day. Thank you sir.. this will come in handy since I'm moving to a new apartment.
You're welcome I'm glad someone is going to take advantage of it, because I posted it in that other thread and nobody even responded to it! One thing I'd suggest is to BUY IT NOW because rumor has it they are discontinuing sometime this month. But, the certificate has no expiration date on it, so as long as you buy it before the promotion ends, you should be OK. If worse comes to worst, Costco will refund your full purchase price.
Fit in River Oaks. That's where I had my free membership for the past year (got it from work). The Power Dancers workout there on Thursdays during the season, and the standard female members are well above average. In fact there are a quite a few regulars that I'd rate higher than any member of RPD. I'm gonna miss that place
I officially started the P90X program tonight. Holy monkey **** this is going to be awesome. I wanted to jump in the shower and curl up in the fetal position when I was done, but boy does it work you out.
That's tonight, actually. Thankfully I'm already in good, athletic shape (I'm doing this program to get really ripped, not to lose love handles) so hopefully I can keep up well enough with the plyo. I guess we'll see.
I'm trying to figure out what's the best plan for me. I actually don't want to lose pounds some areas, just my tummy and love handles. My upper & lower body are fine, just need to tone them up. I don't want to do too much cardio. I will continue doing weight training. How much cardio should I do? I don't want to lose my curves. I was thinking I should do 30 minutes of spurts three times a week. Will that shed tummy & love handles fat? BTW, I'm 141 about 5'6.
[non professional advice] You can't really target fat loss on different parts of your body. It's going to come off where it comes off and there's not much you can do about that. However, you can spot train muscles. So my suggestion would be to do lots of cardio and toning exercises (I'm thinking more like 1 hour, 3 times a week) until you have seen significant reduction in fat on the tummy and love handles. Then assess your "curves" and spot train the muscles in the areas where you want to increase mass (squats for your butt, for example). [/non professional advice]
