I think Dan Langhi is a bit overrated on this board.....Nowitzki will never be able to play defense at that height, and speed.... ------------------
Thats what they said about KG when he came out of high school. ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
Are you comparing Nowitzki to Garnett?? LOL! Nowitzki moves like his feet weigh 50 pounds each. ------------------ "There is no controlling legal authority", - Al Gore, upon discovery that he clearly broke campaign fundraising laws.
i just moved from dallas..the mavs still suck and they will suck again..i dont know why we are worried..all they have is finley..thats it...finley is a great great player but i am the least bit concerned about the mavs and i am no expert but living in dallas watching that joke of a team the mavs..i feel i can safely say... laettner or not..trent or not ..nash?(sucks)..they lose ceballos?he wasnt that bad and a piece and he's gone.. nowitski(no defense dork..i saw him at a club in dallas with steve nash by the way and that guy is a loser..nobody was talking to him and he looked like a lanky dork with these dorky a$$ earrings anyway) so in short who cares about those guys head to head we will kill them and as long as we dont get an big time injuries we are going to smoke those fools in the W-L column... ------------------ i am rather like a mosquito in a nudist camp..i know what i ought to do but i don't know where to begin...
Take a look at Garnett coming into the NBA, and Langhi coming into the NBA.....I would say ther's a definite possibility KG can play D......Langhi doesn't even seem willing......And everyoneone knew KG COULD play defense, the question was if he WOULD........Langhi CAN'T......... ------------------
Langhi can be a very good defender looking at the games I've seen him. Don't get me wrong, his strength is offense, but he can defend pretty damn well too. Where'd you get the idea he can't? ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net ClutchTown.com 4th Friday of August= Rocket Day 1999-Steve Francis 2000-Maurice Taylor
First off, for Rockets fans to argue that the Rockets will beat the Mavericks "hands down" is absurd. Didn't the Mavs have a better record last year? Since then, the Rockets have added Maurice "rebound?" Taylor, Jason Collier and Dan Langhi. The Mavs have added Courtney Alexander (the best shooting guard in the draft), Etan Thomas (who Houston wanted more than Collier) and Donnell Harvey. Let's call that a wash in terms of offseason acquisitions. If the Rockets win more games, it will be because of intangibles, and I've never heard anyone say that a team will win "hands down" because of intangibles. ------------------ "Homosexuals are just trying to make their sodomy as morally acceptable as the sodomy I enjoy in my church-sanctioned marriage." Gen, You've missed 3 very important points that are far from "intangible". 1) It is true that the Mavs had a better record, but the Rox won the seasons series 3-1. 2) The players you mentioned as roster additions are not starters. Of those which are starters - I'll take Mo over Laettner any day. 3) The hottest teams recordwise in *April* in the Western Conference last year? Dallas first, Houston second. Winner of April 13th meeting? Houston 111-102. The "intangibles" lead me to believe that a season split would be not be likely as the Rox core is unchanged (but improved). ------------------ GATER
Gen: Alexander will not be the best SG out of this year's draft...I have seen the man play about 20-25 games the past 4 years...he will be a poor man's Harold Miner at best... He is streaky, ridiculously selfish, plays no D, and will put Crazy Nellie one step closer to the funny farm w/ his "what the hell was he thinking" shot selection. Plus I doubt he'll get any playing time w/ Finley and Davis there. ------------------
"I have to give the edge to Dallas" Isn't that pretty intangible? ------------------ "I am an idiot. Admit that you are too, and we'll talk..." (response given to me by my cognitive psych prof when I asked him about mental maps)

Gen, 1) The topic for the thread was: "hands down we are better than the mavericks" 2) I think reality is closer to what was posted earlier by Rocket Expert: C Cato / Bradley- Cato PF Taylor / Christian - Taylor SF Walt / Nowitzki- Nowitzki SG Anderson / Finley - Finley PG Francis / Eisley - Francis Bench- Houston Coach- Houston G.M.- Houston Owner- Houston (Cuban will meddle too much in my opinion. He is great during this rebuilding process because of his money, but he will be a problem in the future, imo.) 3) The Rox, Spurs, and Mavs have not *all* made the playoffs since 89-90. We'll take 7 and you take 8. My two favorite NBA teams are the Houston Rockets and whoever is playing the Jazz. ------------------ GATER
Gen, Alexander is not that accurate a shooter. Last season he shot 45% FG, 33% in 3's. He will be unstoppable at times offensively (maybe against Vinny Del Negro for instance), but then 70% of the time he will be Harold Miner-esque. I question the amount of playing time he'll get b/c although I agree Finley will start at the 3 (and be a damn good one), Laettner and Trent will push Nowitzki down to the 3 at times, which will push Finley to playing the 2 at times. In addition, Eisley will probably see some time at the 2 as well (to guard players like Mobley/Iverson at times). Desmond Mason will probably pan out as the best SG from this draft. ------------------

As a giant Mavs fan, and as a basketball fan in general, I think this year will be one of the greatest in terms of a Mavs-Rockets rivalry. As we all know, Dallas and Houston have a competitive nature towards one another. We're basically Texas's 1-2 punch, if you will. I believe this year will be the first year in forever that the Mavs and Rockets are on such an even pedestal. As a Mavs fan, here's how I see it. However, take into account I am a Mavs fan, therefore maybe I'm a bit bias and I know more about the Mavs than a Rocket fan will. I understand that Rockets fans are more inclined to like a Rocket than a Mav, and know more about them... Here's what I see for the Mavs roster... Center: From what has been said, Pete Newell, one of the most revered advisor on big men, has noted that Shawn"Praying Mantis"Bradley has made great strides this summer. Does that mean he's gonna be a top center? Probably not. Also, Laettner will now be takin 25-30 min. at center/PF, including starting many games. This should be great for Bradley who had trouble with fouls early in the game last year. However, I believe the Mavericks biggest intangible at center is the fact that both these men have quite a few doubters, and theyre in the last year of their contract. I expect both to enhance their game this year in hopes of the big paycheck, and interest from free agency. In a slim pool o free agent crop, a good season for a couple guys playin post might warrant extra attention. PF- I'm holding out hope that Trent returns to his status of a couple years ago. 17ppg, 8rpg is definitely stats that will help a playoff team, which Trent averaged the year before last. Once again, the fact that Trent will be a free agent next year should bolster his play. He will finally be "bird rights" eligible for the Mavs, and he knows Mr. Cuban has the bucks to get him the money if he'll earn it. Laettner should also be playing some PF, as well as Dirk. Rookie Etan Thomas, although raw, should be able to keep Trent, Laettner, etc. healthy. SF- Two words...Dirk Nowitzki. Dirk is gonna be special, no doubt. I see him as bein one of the #1 coaches nightmare in the league. He drops 3's consistently, he has good dribbling skills, can bring the ball up, and is developing a post up game. Best of all, hes 7'0!! Hes honed his game even more over the summer, and will most definitely be better. He may be a new breed of superstar... SG- Michael Finley has become one of the top SG's in the league. 23ppg, 6rpg, 5apg...those are stats of a star. I hope the fans give him the respect he deserves and vote him the starting sg this year in the all-star game. Behind him, theres Courtney Alexander, who also may very well end up being a superstar. He replaces Ceballos' points, imho. In addition there is Hubetr Davis, the top 3 pt shooter in the league, and Greg Buckner, who has shown he can be the Mavs defensive specialist. Both can play the 1 or 2. PG- The Mavs upgraded at PG, though theyre still not quite the prowess that Francis already holds(I think Francis will be a superstar within 1-2 years). Nash showed some promise last year, after suffering most of the year with injuries. In Eisley, the Mavs gain a PG who can bring them what they need, and has been under the wing of perhaps the games greatest PG's ever for the last few years. I hope this gives Rocket fans a few other views of the Mavs. I think the Rockets will be nice this year, and its gonna be a battle for playoff spots #7 and 8. My prdeiction for the season series is 2-2, with each team taking one at home and one away. So, lets get this intrastate rivalry goin, guys!! Go Mavericks!! ------------------ Reunion Rowdies returning...watch out NBA!!
