How can you cover a wider area with a shotgun? It is much longer and slower to move.

There are indoor pistol ranges everywhere. Try to take a shotgun in one. Or to a rifle range. If you buy a shotgun you will have to look hard for some places to shoot it that are not for trap or skeet.

    This is a clip

The fact that you called a magazine a clip and suggested a laser sight makes me realize you don't really know wtf you are talking about.

You would have to get much paper work and a 200 dollar tax stamp done since it is a shotgun.

I recently purchased the H&K USP compact .40. It is on the expensive side, but I 1.) always really liked USPs, and 2.) I wanted the external safety. Love the way it shoots as well.

edit: forgot to say why I chose a handgun vs shotgun for defense. For me, I plan to get my CHL (concealed handgun license). As far as I know they don't have a CSL. haha

    ...and, I just like handguns.

    No one mentioned safety yet.

I won't go into safety details but remember, you're responsible for every bullet that comes out of the barrel, even accidental discharges (the gun should NEVER be pointed at anything or person you don't intend to destroy). Don't be some jackass "gangsta" and show it off to your friends after drinking a case of beer. Stupidity and guns don't mix.

wider area in terms of shot spread. You have margin for error when firing. you can easily shoot with minimal aim and hit the target.

slower to move? yeah i guess, by fractions of seconds by a trained professional but what you sacrifice there (which is immaterial) you make up for in your greater ability to hit the target. who cares if you move fast but cant hit anything.

But the point here OP seems to be a novice shooter. yes, with a pistol you have to practice to get get. Even if you are good, in a intense situation, you probably wont hit anything. A shot gun is pretty stupid proof. A few practice runs to get familiar with it and you are good to go. It doesnt take much skill.

yeah, i've never taken a shotgun to a firing range so idon't know the rules. I just go to the ranch.

the fact that you think a pistol is better for home protection than a shotgun lets me know you don't know what you talking about.

Magazine/clip...give me a break  Congrats on the most douchey "insult" of the day.

A pistol is fine. I have one. But if I had limited experience with guns and only needed one for home protection, then the best bet is a shotgun. Cheaper, easier and more effective in the hands of someone with little experience. If the OP wants to start a gun collection, then sure, look into pistols.

let me guess...i said gun and not rifle...i don't know what i'm talking about.

How much of a spread do YOU think a shotgun gives you at apartment range exactly?

One is correct, the other is not.

I can vouch for this by my experience. Whenever I play counterstrike, it is way easier to shoot people from close range with a shotty, and it isn't any slower to maneuver than a pistol. Would recommend, A+++++.

Maybe killing someone is not what he wants to do.

I agree with your definition.........but not your approach. I do think it is a pretty douchey thing to bring up to try and discredit someone's opinion.

Here's what the National Rifle Association has to say in their defiitions section:

    CLIP
A device for holding a group of cartridges. Semantic wars have been fought over the word, with some insisting it is not a synonym for "detachable magazine." For 80 years, however, it has been so used by manufacturers and the military. There is no argument that it can also mean a separate device for holding and transferring a group of cartridges to a fixed or detachable magazine or as a device inserted with cartridges into the mechanism of a firearm becoming, in effect, part of that mechanism.

more spread than a pistol. For every yard buckshot will typically spread about an inch. 3 yards away...you're looking at, at least, a 3 inch spread. I'd say that's much better than pistol.

    clip clip clip.

If I had a funny picture to discredit his laser sight, shotgun spread and just as easy to maneuver a shotgun in an apartment as a handgun I would have posted those instead.

In an apartment, the spread from a shotgun is about 2 inches. That is not going to help your aim. Shotguns take 2 hands to operate. Where is he going to store this shotgun? Firearms safe in an apartment? Handgun you can have a small safe with a biometric lock. the advantages are overwhelming.

Some people don't actually want to kill even if its a criminal. They certainly don't want to accidentally kill somebody they know.

I don't like guns. Really wish the bad guys would man up.

this is incorrect. The spread is half that.

you didnt even utter a complete thought about the laser sight. I don't even know what your point was, which is why i ignored it.

why does he need a safe? he can just keep it under his bed. Maybe in his closet. It's not that hard to put it somewhere close.

rule of thumb for buchsot is an inch per yard. It varies, but that's the average.
