I would not bet on getting any for a good price. You just chose the most expensive service pistol caliber around.
Oh yeah for defensive use, these are the rounds that pass the FBI 12" penetration of gelatin test. They are...If it isn't Walmart or sales at a sporting goods store it isn't even close to reasonable...(Academy, Dicks, Bassproshops) It seems to me sportsmansguide.com is reasonable thoughfor online sources. try there. The buyers club is worth it.
You are the authority out here IMHO. I have the 3.5# trigger on both. Smooth as silk. I have the green trijis on the 27 and the internal lasermax and tac light on the 22. I don't know about the tac light though. Thinking of removing it. I went with the 2.5" fangs on the viper for concealment purposes.
What ammo do folks recommend for range firing for the .45 ACP. I understand that I got an expensive caliber, but that's OK. I just want an economical alternative for range firing. I understand there has been a run on ammo lately, prices are up, and sometimes you have to call around or get on wait lists, but what should I be on the wait list for?
Winchester white box is always a good bet. .45 can also take reloads if you want to save some $$$ in the longrun. Always practice with the same load as you will shoot in a defensive round.
Exactly...That is why I don't recommend +P on .45....Keeping 230 grain for .45 is a safe way to go. P.S. I'm impressed F.T. ...You customized pretty much the way I would. I also recommend keeping the tac light in case.
I was about to start a thread on handguns before I did a search and found this very recent thread. I am taking my concealed carry permit course next Saturday and should have my license within 2 months is what they tell me so I will be looking for a handgun pretty soon. I don't want a .40 or .45 though and I would like to stay away from revolvers as well. I also do not want to spend a fortune on a handgun, my cousin recently purchased one for like $700-800 which is out of my price range. So, what do you experts recommend?
In my limited experience, if you don't want a revolver, and aren't looking for a .40 or .45, you are kind of locked into getting a 9mm. In your price range, perhaps check out the Glocks or the SA XD series.
My cousin pretty much told me the same thing but I figured there was no harm in getting other opinions. Any good places online to look a different guns and their specs?
what ever gun you get, definitely check out XS Bigdot sights, they are great for low light/close range maneuvers which are often the conditions find yourself in when having to defend yourself.
Ideally? Browning Hi-Power. It is the nearest gun to the 1911 that ever existed, so it's the second best design ever. (It is a little pricey, though.) You can save some money on ammo by going with 9MM or .380. Glock is a good choice there. My first handgun was a Glock 19. I traded it in on a Walther PPS because I wanted a smaller gun. There are a lot of good plastic semi-autos in the $400-$500 range. Glocks star there, as do Springfield XD. They are very good guns. If you go much cheaper, you can get a decent gun, but you will give up on something.
I have a bunch of handguns but I carry a Glock 19 which might be in your price range. I don't know what they are going for now. Going to a gunshow is the best thing for selection and price. Otherwise to get a good deal you have to order online and have it sent to a local FFL for transfer which if they are jerks will be expensive. Ottoman charges VERY reasonable price but I remember you are not living in Houston so you would have to call around locally.
