Hampton was almost the Cy-Young winner two seasons ago. If Colorodo does not demand alot (trade wise) then the Astros would be fools not to take him. But I dont see that penny pinching Mclane making the trade.
The Astros are set with their pitching, but why would you pass up the opportunity to make your rotation even better if the price was right? A rotation including Hampton, Oswalt, Miller, and Hernandez could potentially be tops in the majors. Any deal would include Reynolds as I can't see the Astros picking up his $9mill option after this season.
Carlos Hernandez also had a tear in his rotator cuff and we're counting on him to be a starter. A tear isn't the same as having it torn and requiring surgery.
I agree....i'd love to have hampton back. He adds toughness to a team that seems to be a bit short on it at times. And the way he swung the bat in colorado? I'd love to have a relative at the 9 hole in our lineup! He was supposedly the fastest player on the team as an astro, maybe second fastest behind biggio. Anyway, bottom line- i would love to have him back. He's a gamer, and would be a great leader and role model to our EXTREMELY young pitching staff. not that i'll be watching baseball, but if i did, those are my thoughts
I take it back, if the Astros could somehow manage to acquire Hampton and send Reynolds to the Rockies in return, I would be for that. Reynolds doesn't make that much less than Hampton, and as someone else mentioned, Hampton is an outstanding batter and fielder (can pinch run too). But I am with haven, I would not give up Hidalgo and Shane for Pierre and Hampton.
It would be great to have Hampton back. I would trade them Reynolds and Truby for Hampton. Anyone else, and the price IMHO becomes too high.
Favorite Hampton moment: Spiers, I think, is attacked in right field by a fan and Hampton races from the mound and starts poundin' the guy. You can count on one hand the number of other pitchers who would do that. A guy like that is always welcome on my team.
I'd hate to lose Reynolds, but Hampton is younger & more dominant at this point in their respective careers. If they included Pierre, I'd have to consider offering Reynolds/Ward/prospect for Hampton/Pierre. Pierre would answer our center fielder question with speed & offense. He doesn't have to hit for power, just get on base & he did that quite well last year. However, I doubt that they would include Pierre in any deal, unless it was a great deal. Just imagine it though Berkman/Pierre/Hidalgo in the outfield would be pretty tough & Pierre's speed would make up for the lack of Berkman & Hidalgo's speed. If the deal's out there, I say go for it.
