Am on level 3 playing through solo on Heroic.

Some of these early set-pieces where it's you and wave after wave of Brutes can be pretty challenging, especially those hammer dudes.

I played one quick MP slayer game just to try it out, looke pretty fun, the new shields and gadgets give a whole lot more possibilities, too bad I keep hitting the X button to reload....

I had fun in the couple of games I played with you guys last night. Let me know if you want to play again tonight. We definately need to do some CTF or bomb games though. It seemed like everywhere I turned there was FlyerFanatic and Rocket786.

After having two full days with the game I must say I am unimpressed.

Hype for this game was up in the stratosphere yet the experience was no different than your average PC shooter. Yeah people will argue to death over Halo's greatness but serious gamers will know what I am talking about.

My affection for the Master Chief began with Halo CE when it was a fresh and neat experience. A sort of novelty you had to experience because it rivaled PC shooters in all categories. Word of mouth made the game legendary without any major marketing blitz. Then Halo 2 came along and I was seriously let down by lack of of forward thinking and cliffhanger ending.

Flash forward three years later and the Chief is back for his last outing. At face value Halo 3 is a good and enjoyable experience with tons of neat little addition like Forge and Video replay sharing. However these changes quickly wear out their appeal. In 6 years Halo franchise as a whole has made very little progress in terms of innovation and creativity. Yes having the same familiar user experience is good but what justifies the purchase of a $400 piece of hardware when the difference from the last iteration (H2) is very small. This type of rehashing may work for other franchises but Halo is billed by Microsoft as the grand daddy of all video games and must own or you have no taste. It is everywhere from soda bottle to race cars and slurpee joints.

This type of media blitz is designed to rival major Hollywood blockbuster like Spidey and Harry Potter yet those movies only cost the end user $8-10 for cost of admission. Halo 3's bill $450 for a new console and game. That is why I cannot justify buying a 360 after playing Halo 3. Nor would I recommend it to anyone from hereon. It is a rental at best and lacks any major improvements worthy of purchase. In my opinion your money is better spend on Gears or Bioshock which provide better experiences without the in-your-face marketing and D-day type bombing on your senses by tie in products.

Anyone interested in a better FPS should wait for UT3 or even the Half-Life Orange box which serves a lot in a small package. Then there is also Crysis to look forward too!

...but the MP in Halo 3 is awesome...and good enough of a reason for me to buy the game (didn't purchase an xbox 360 just for Halo 3).

I wouldn't say Halo 3's bill is $450. I bought a 360 for a lot of the games it has. I'm sure everyone in this thread that has a 360, also has other games besides Halo 3. So I'd put Halo 3's cost at 60-70 as a normal game.

To me it's the most feature packed game released, and easily worth the price. Yea Spiderman and Harry Potter cost $8-$10 to watch, but they give me 3 hrs of entertainment for the money. Halo 3 will give countless hrs.

Yeah, anyone that buys the XBox 360 solely for Halo 3 is being silly. There are many more games on the XBox 360 worth your time, money and attention. Applying a $450 price tag to Halo 3 is being highly disingenuous.

Matter of opinion. I'm a pretty serious gamer and Halo is one of my favorite games and franchises. I haven't really played a game yet that has matched what halo delivers as a fps on a console...the only exception to that would of course be Half Life 2 (and that lacked a multiplayer...at least until orange box comes out).

As far as its evolution as a franchise, go back and take a look at the first Halo and you'll see how far this game has come...the graphics, environments, level design, weapon design, balance and storyline have all gradually improved since the first game...and that's exactly what you'd expect a franchise to do...has the Metroid Prime or Metal Gear Solid series shifted in radical new directions...not really...not even Snakeater...the basic gameplay and graphics remained the same while they made some very welcome tweaks that enhanced the experience (stamina bar, no radar).

That's what I've seen they've done here...the environments are pretty breathtaking and much more detailed than in previous installments...the new items (grav lift, bubble shield, etc) are useful...being able to rip a turret of its mounting and walking with it is pretty cool. The new weapons add some freshness (that warhammer is mighty nice). And so far I'm loving it.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again...people keep bringing up Gears of War and Bioshock as benchmarks for this system..that may be, but personally, I don't care for either of them.

Maybe he just means there is a lack of innovation for a franchise this popular and that has been around so long. Games like Metal Gear Solid were on last gen systems and there was only so much that could be done. But this is next gen, and HALO is one of the most, if not the most popular game franchise out there. There should be more being brought to the table than some new weapons and some more levels. This game should set the bar... that being said, I haven't played it, although I own the first 2, I never enjoyed it enough to really call it one of my favorites. Its good for a FPS but nothing to wet yourself over.

Well you look at Metroid Prime Corruption and the only thing radical it's done different is of course the controls with the wiimote.

I dunno...I'm not sure what people were expecting from a Halo game...aside from even better graphics.

And imo, Halo itself was really never about innovation...I think it just happened to be the first console fps that equaled the level of enjoyment you'd find in a pc fps...and then the multiplayer of course...that made online gaming what it is.

Perhaps it could've made the enviornments more interactive...that's one thing I'd like to see more...I guess kind of what Bioshock is doing.

Suggesting Crysis after b****ing about Halo 3's mythical $450 cost is just freaking ridiculous...hahahaha.

Preordering online defeats the purpose. I agree that you're much more likely to have this problem in this case. But I'm talking about in store.

Sure it happens, but I don't think it's going to be the majority of cases. Not by far.

And in your WoW experience there wasn't a preorder involved, so I don't know that that's really an example.

Of course you can get the games in different places. that's what's great about it. Particularly when you can find a good sale! :D

But again, I think it is a matter of convenience in some instances. You only want to go one place, maybe where you always go, and just pick up your game. This happens for a lot of people most of the time.
