Last year my mom told me only about 8 or 9 kids came to the door. I remember when I was little the streets were PACKED! Little kids like myself dressed up in Power Ranger costumes going wild.

    Those were the days. :(

We took the kids to the mall on the way to church... then at church we had more candy in the youth, plus some grandparents handed out candy.

Btw - some of our adults dressed up too... we know who we are, therefore are not scared of dressing up and having fun on Halloween...

We even had a guy dressed as the grim reaper during the illustrated sermon, with strobe lights, black lights, spider webs and smoke machines...

By the time we got home, no kids were out... we had left the porch light off since we'd be gone when most kids go door to door.

I feel sorry for people not letting their kids have childhood memories that are fun around Halloween... "religious" reasons imposed that strictly on kids often results in them leaving the church at the first sign of adulthood anyway.

I'm glad my dad (a pastor) did not let the "church crowd" dictate to him what was allowed... my childhood was fun, and so is my kids' - I let my son dress as Jack Sparrow, my daughter dress as Cinderella and we took them to church that way. Several were dressed up in anything from Zorro to inmates to "Scream" to cops, etc. Nothing too scary, but hey... we still had the freedom to let everybody have fun.

    I called that shot. ;)

We stopped giving out candy when we stopped getting trick or treaters. We used to do the pumpkins and decorations and candy but the number of kids turned into a trickle. The last year we did it, we got 1 visit and 2 kids. It's just not worth it anymore. Nobody trick or treats in our neighborhood.

There used to be a ton of kids, but this year only about 15-20. What happened and what am I going to do with 5 pounds of candy?

Not as many kids these days, that's for sure.

My favorite experience with a trick-or-treater came two years ago. The kid didn't have a bag or bucket or anything.... he was just eating as he went along. Now that's hardcore.

I found out several years ago that kids don't seem to trick or treat at apartment complexes, so I haven't bought any candy in quite a while..

My wife is the one who does Halloween or Christmas decorations or stuff around our house (I never start it). This year she had to work late so no candy for the kids. I made my house as dark as possible so we wouldn't get any trick-or-treaters.

And, BTW, we also have two Beagles (plus a third dog that we are sitting) who bark like crazy anytime someone comes to the door. They are friendly, though. When we did do candy they would stand at the door and check out the kids and one of them would put his head in each bag trying to find the best treat for himself. Reverse trick-or-treating, I guess...
